Jamie Porter
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jamie Porter is a popular American stand-up comedian and magician who has worked with some of the biggest names in show business, including Larry the Cable Guy and Celine Dion. He is a native of West Palm Beach, Florida, where he is known as “the busiest performer in Florida,” regularly performing more than 250 shows a year.
[edit] Life and Career
Porter started in show business at the age of 14 as a magician, but he eventually became known as much for his comic ability as for his magic. Jamie paid his dues early on by working a few “hell gigs” with buddy Dan Whitney (Larry the Cable Guy) and other local notables like Tom Ryan.
Porter has written and performed more than 2,500 school shows and cut his comedic teeth on the national comedy club circuit, including numerous appearances all over the country at clubs like the Comedy Zone, New York Comedy Club, Comedy Corner, Bocanuts, and Joker’s Wild.
For a time, Jamie Porter found a unique niche as an opening act for many popular singers and bands who wanted to warm up their audiences with Jamie's popular brand of clean humor. Among his well-known co-stars are:
• Florence Henderson (with whom he toured for 17 shows)
• Eddie Mekka (Carmine of "Laverne & Shirley" TV Show)
Jamie Porter also worked with comedy legend Mort Sahl (who is listed at #40 on Comedy Central's list of the 100 greatest standup comedians of all time).
[edit] Worldwide Performances
Porter has performed more than 500 shows for corporations around the world and entertained audiences from Las Vegas to the Bahamas to the Middle East. At the personal invitation of the Saudi Royal Family, he conducted a three-week performing tour of Saudi Arabia. In addition to numerous appearances on CBS television, Porter also performed on the hugely popular Television Magic Special in Japan and appeared on 60 Minutes Television News Magazine in Australia.
