James R. Lilley

James R. Lilley was the U.S. ambassador to the People's Republic of China from 1989 to 1991. In China, he is known by his Chinese name Li Jieming (Simplified Chinese: 李洁明; Traditional Chinese: 李潔明; Pinyin: Lǐ Jiémíng).

Earlier (1981-1984), he was the Director of the American Institute in Taiwan. Effectively, this meant he was the U.S. ambassador to the Republic of China.
