J. H. "Herbie" Brennan (born Ireland, 1940) began his career as a journalist at the age of 18.

He became Ireland's youngest newspaper editor at 24 and since then has had considerable experience in journalism and advertising.

He has had a lifelong interest in the occult and trained in Qabalah for 12 years.

He is a highly competent hypnotist and also an I Ching practitioner. He has experimented succesfully with occult therapeutic techniques.

He lives in Ireland and is currently a full-time writer. His most notable work is Occult Reich, published in 1974.

He is the author of over one hundred fiction and non-fiction books, for adults, teens and children. His works have been translated into approximately fifty languages, and he is highly influential within the Occult and New Age communities. As an author, his GrailQuest solo adventure gamebook series, published in the 1980s, sold millions of copies worldwide, notably in France, and is still in print in many countries today... although not, sadly, in any English-language edition as of this writing. More recently, his teenage novel Faerie Wars achieved New York Times best-seller status in the U.S. and is now part of a four-book series. Herbie has also lectured widely throughout his native Ireland and the UK. He initially trained in esoteric teachings and Qabalah with the Society of the Inner Light, he later became associated with Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki and the Servants of the Light.

In 2003, Brennan published the children's book The Book Of Wizardry: The Apprentice's Guide to the Secrets of the Wizards' Guild under the pseudonym "Cornelius Rumstuckle." The book purports to instruct children on how to become a wizard; it discusses crafts such as making a wand, and includes astrological references throughout. According to the biographical note on the back cover, Rumstuckle "joined the Wizards' Guild in 1514 and became its youngest president ever seventy-eight years later, a post he holds to this day."

Herbie Brennan lives with his wife, the crystal therapist and author Jacquie Burgess, in an old rectory in Ireland.
