[edit] Biography

Born in Ovamboland about 1933, he was educated at St Mary's, Odibo, and baptised in 1951. He studied at the Dorothea Mission in Johannesburg 1958-1959 and did more study in Kenya before returning to Namibia in 1964. In 1965 he travelled to the USA and Canada for further study, with an MA from New York University. He was ordained as an Anglican priest by Bishop Colin Winter (who was then in exile).

He was elected suffragan bishop of Namibia in 1977, and was consecrated bishop in England in January 1978, and returned to live in Namibia after having lived abroad for 12 years. After the death of bishop Colin Winter in 1981 he was elected diocesan bishop, the first Namibian to hold that office.
