James Gillespie's High School

James Gillespie's High School is a secondary school in Marchmont, Edinburgh. Its campus borders with the James Gillespie's Primary School campus. It is one of the only high schools in its area that are not required to wear uniform.

The schools motto is "Fidelis et Fortes" (Latin: "Fidelity and Strength)"

  • Muriel Spark, a Scottish novelist attended James Gillespie's High School and later based her novel, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie in a school resembling Gillespie's.
