James Cook University Hospital

The James Cook University Hospital is a 1010 bed major tertiary hospital in Marton, Middlesbrough. It forms part of the South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust, along with the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. It opened in 1980, and specialises in the treatment of cancer and heart conditions.

It is used to teach clinical medical students from Newcastle University Medical School as well as both pre-clinical and clinical students from Queen's Campus Stockton (a collaboration between Newcastle University Medical School and Durham University). The hospital also has strong teaching and research links with the School of Health at the University of Teesside.

The hospital has a landing pad for use by the Great North and Yorkshire air ambulances.

The accident and emergency department is one of the leading departments in the country.
