James Bond Ultimate Edition DVD

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 'James Bond Ultimate Edition DVDs are DVDs released to coincide with the release of Casino Royale. They feature the first 20 James Bond films - 4 volumes of 5 movies each. All of the films went through frame-by-frame digital restoration by Lowry Digital Images, resulting in a clear crisp picture. They are presented in widescreen format. The feature films have Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 surround sound audio. For the North American Region 1 release, the films also include French Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and, where applicable, the original mono and 3.0 audio tracks.

For all the movies, Disc 1 features the movie itself, commentaries, and a spoken languages and subtitles option. Disc 2 is filled with previously released and unreleased special features. In the UK, the DVDs are sold as separate movies as well as in the boxed sets.

Volumes 1 & 2 were released on Nov. 7th, 2006. Volumes 3 & 4 were released on Dec. 12th, 2006. On Feb. 6th, 2007, Goldfinger, Thunderball, The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only, Licence To Kill, and GoldenEye were re-released as a single disc containing only the commentaries as the special feature.[1] On May 22, 2007, From Russia Wth Love, You Only Live Twice, The Man With The Golden Gun, Moonraker, The Living Daylights, and The World Is Not Enough will be released.[2] This will possibly be on the Blu-ray format as new owners of the Bond franchise, Sony, also developed Blu-ray.

The films are also available in the UK individually, and as an Ultimate Box Set, containing all 20 movies. In addition, 'actor sets' are available, featuring all the films starring each: Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan. It us unknown whether a George Lazenby/Timothy Dalton set will be produced to allow a complete collection if buying these sets.

The release of the 'ultimate' edition has been controversial, as the previous 'standard' edition also contained some special features and was labelled 'special' edition, leading some fans to believe there would not be another definitive home video release.
