James Baines (clipper)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James Baines was a clipper ship constructed in the 1800s by ship builder Donald McKay of East Boston in the U.S.A. She was the namesake of her owner James Baines and was once described as "the most perfect ship afloat."[citation needed] Following a successful voyage to India, she was in dock in Liverpool when she caught fire with seeds and hide in her cargo. The destruction cost James Baines £170,000.
