James Arthur (mathematician)

James Arthur (born May 18, 1944), is a Canadian mathematician and former President of the American Mathematical Society.
A pupil of Langlands, Arthur is known for generalizing the Selberg trace formula to general semisimple groups, creating one of the most important tools for research on the Langlands program.
