Jim Stroud (born September 2, 1950) is Chairman of the Board of Capital Senior Living, one of the major developers of senior living communities in the United States.

[edit] Early life
His parents divorced when he as very young, and he and a brother grew up in El Paso, Texas with his mother, who often would work two jobs to make ends meet. Stroud played high school football and was en route to a college scholarship when he blew out his knee senior year. After his surgery, he turned to baseball, attending Texas Tech University and playing for the Raiders. Stroud graduated 1st in his class from the Texas Tech School of Business.[citation needed] Stroud then attended University of Texas Law School, where he graduated summa cum laude with a J.D.. Stroud put himself through college and graduate school working a full-time job. Stroud then attended New York University School of Law, where he received a Master's in Tax Law; he also took the Certified Public Accountancy Exam and passed with a perfect score.[citation needed]

After New York, he moved to Denver to practice accountancy and tax Law. His true success came much later when he moved to Dallas, Texas. Here, he practiced Tax Law and acquired a large client base. After accumulating large amount of cash, he began to invest in Real Estate nationwide. He co-founded Capital Realty Group in 1984, and soon became a well know Dallas Developer. At this same time, Stroud started Capital Senior Living, a private health care company.

He married Lynn Mulberry in 1982, and they had two children, William and Jennifer. When Jennifer was 6, she was diagnosed with AML, a fatal type of leukemia, deadly in 95% of the cases; she died two year later. Following her death, the Jennifer Lynn Stroud Foundation was founded. Managed by William, as of 2007 attending the University of Mississippi, the foundation is a major supporter of Children's Medical Center in Dallas and The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, both places where Jennifer received treatment.
Stroud lives in the Highland Park area of Dallas. The now substantial family fortune is estimated at well over $100 million. Capital Senior Living is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CSU, where Mr. Stroud is the majority Stock holder at 24%, with over $40,000,000 currently held and a market cap of $272+ million. Various other Real Estate and Oil and Natural Gas opportunities are always in the works, with a joint effort in investment coming both from Mr. Stroud and his son.
