Jamboo Savari

Jamboo Savari as it is called popularly in kannada is the Elephant Procession during the fabled Mysore Dasara. It marks the culmination of the celebrations of Mysore Dasara. Usually the Chief Minister of Karnataka State makes floral offerings to the goddess Chamundeshwari statue which will be mounted on the Golden Howdah , cannons are fired as a mark of respect and the police band plays the national anthem to signal the commencement of the "Jamboo Savari". Traditionally, the "Jamboo savari", accompanied by several tableaux, passes through the main thoroughfares of Mysore city before reaching Bannimantap Grounds, where a grand torchlight parade is held. The procession accompaying the Jamboo Savari highlights the culture of the state.
