Jamal is a male given name. The origin of the name is Arabic and it means beauty.

Jamil (pronounced Jameel) and Jamila (pronounced Jameela) are also given names with the same triconsonantal root in Arabic. They both mean beautiful - as when referring to a male and to a female, respectively.

The use of this name is wide spread beyond the Arab countries. It is a very popular African-American name.
