Jalakandapuram is located at 11.7° N 77.88° E^[1]. It has an average elevation of 269 metres (882 feet).

As of 2001 India census^GRIndia, Jalakandapuram had a population of 14,116. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Jalakandapuram has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 63%. In Jalakandapuram, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

It is a place famous for weaving, especially sarees. Many don't know about this place, but all the major sellers are buying sarees only from Jalakandapuram and two more towns(Vanavasi and Elampillai). These two places are located nearer to Jalakandapuram only.

Lot of local festivals are conducted here reflects Tamilian culture. There are very booming for Modern textile machines and products. Towns total eceonomic depends on Handlooms and Powerlooms and Textile mills. In concerning Agriculture, the main farming on Cotton, Ragi, Cornflower. In milk production it is a great collection area.
