[edit] Plot Summary

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

At Lawndale High, Ms. Li allows two loud and obnoxious radio DJs, Bing and the Spatula Man from station Z-93, to broadcast live all week from school.

At the Morgendorffer home, Jake has a heart attack, a mild one, during dinner and collapses. At the hospital, he fears for his life after having a near-death experience and asks for his mother, Ruth Morgendorffer, to stay with them while he's bedridden.

Helen can't take having to deal with Ruth criticizing her and Quinn "studies" to become a heart doctor while Ruth keeps asking her "wouldn't it be easier just to marry a heart doctor?"

Daria is having trouble dealing with Bing and the Spatula Man and having to comfort Jake. So, one day at school, Daria manages to shame the two DJs into leaving.

Meanwhile, Jake confronts Ruth about the way his father, Mad Dog Morgendorffer, treated him when he was a child and his mother reveals that if she had a second chance she would've been a better mother.

While Ruth is criticizing both Helen and Quinn, Daria confronts her about the way she's trying to get both of them to model their lives after her, even though she admitted that she wished she had lived her life differntly when her husband was alive. She's also able to convince Jake that he's a better father then his father was, which makes him shrug off his feelings of helplessness and gets him out of bed.

So things go back to normal in Lawndale, at least normal enough for Daria, until Bing and the Spatula Man announce that they're broadcasting live from Pizza King all week.

Spoilers end here.
