Jake Mason (born January 28, 1814) is known most for his alleged ability to converse with snowballs. Mason claimed that he learned of the death during the of his second cousin (Franklin Balladson) in the winter of 1823 from a snowman built by the small children living next door to him in a small ghetto to the east of Detroit. It rarely snowed in his neighborhood, but when it did he would create his own "snow palaces" so that he could have his own conversation with the snow, which he called his "spiritual apextual." While neighbors discounted him as crazy, his modern contemporaries, the best known of which is Tyler Jones, regard him as one of the most brilliant men of the 19th century.

Since his death, many attempts to revive his body -- which is currently frozen on Greenland -- have been made, none of which were successful.
