The episode opens with Jake and Rose on a dream date. Jake asks Rose about her parents and Rose tells him they passed away shortly after she was born. Jake then transfers them to an island with his charm bracelet. Rose tries to tell Jake something, but Jake's alarm clock rings. Jake's late for school again. Rotwood tells Jake that he would have no problem flunking him out of the 7th grade, but he must give him a makeup test on a genius of modern time. Jake asks who, but Rotwood refuses to tell.

Jake goes to the library to get some last minute studying before meeting Rose on their dream date, but has no luck. On the date, Rose notices that Jake is distracted. Jake tells her that Rotwood is giving him a test and he refuses to tell him what to study. Jake then adds the fact that the only way he can pass is to go into Rotwood's mind. Oddly, Rose tells him he can and she drags him to a hall in which everyone in the world has a dream door. They find Rotwood's dream door and enter. Rose tells him that the door doesn't just show people's dreams, but their thoughts and dreams and it all gets deeper the further you go into the person sub-conscious. Jake and Rose roam through Rotwood's childhood before they find the answers to the test in Rotwood's sub-conscious. Just as Jake tucks the answers away, a 3 headed creature attacks them. Jake and Rose fight together and leave, but Jake leaves the door open and the creature comes out to reek havoc in other people's dreams.

The next morning, Jake finds his parents arguing and being hostile against each other. Jake goes to school to see Trixie and Spud and the rest of the school being grumpy. Rose approaches Jake, Trixie and Spud and tells them that everyone is grumpy because they all had bad dreams due to the creature; a chimera. Jake realizes that he accidentally let the chimera of Rotwood's sub-conscious and he goes to the shop where Fu makes a magical snare to catch the chimera. The kids enter the dream realm and they enter Jake's grandfather's dream door where he gives Jake the snare. They then spot the chimera going into Spud's dream realm and they chase it in. In Spud's dream realm, the city is called Spudopolis and Spud is a Batman like superhero called MegaSpud Man. They find the chimera attacking residents of Spudopolis. Jake almost catches the chimera, but Rotwood's voice wake them all but Spud up.

They were caught by Rotwood in the school library at night. Rotwood rambles about obeying your superiors. Trixie manages to get Rotwood to leave and they all go back to the dream realm where Spud has been attacked by the chimera. Trixie goes to help Spud while Rose and Jake go after the chimera, but Jake drops the snare into the bay. Rose tries to distract the chimera by running into her dream realm while the Chimera chases her. Rose finds herself deep in her sub-conscious. Suddenly she hears voices. It's her mother in the hospital with not only an infant Rose, but a twin sibling. Suddenly, one of the nurses sees the birthmark. Rose then watches as her mother is wheeled into the waiting room where the Huntsman is standing. The Huntsman then walks over to Rose's mother and pries Rose out of her grip, undercover nurses restrain Rose's parents while the Huntsman walks away telling the baby "You are one of us". The teenage Rose backs away in horror realizing the awful truth: she was kidnapped and her parents are still alive and out there somewhere. The chimera catches up with Rose and Rose runs out of her dream door, but there's no way out. She's trapped. Rose prepares to fight, possibly to the death, when Jake flies over and catches the chimera in the snare. Jake, Trixie and Spud celebrate while Rose stares into space, the Huntsman's words still in her head.

Everyone wakes up just as Rotwood walks back into the room. But Rotwood is too excited about the fact that Jake will fail out of the 7th grade, that he lets them all go without a punishment. That day at school, Jake realizes that Rotwood's test is on himself. Jake then tears up the answers because the trip to the dream realm was just as good as studying. After the test, Jake sits in Rotwood's office as Rotwood is beyond shocked that Jake got every question right and Jake tells him that he did his research.
