Jainism in Mumbai

Mumbai has one the largest populations of Jains among all the cities in India.
Bombay has numerous Jain temples. The best known is the Babu Amichand Panalal Adishwarji Jain Temple at Ridge Rd., Walkeshwar (Malabar Hill).
The Godi Parshwanath temple in the Paydhuni location is also famous. It is a center of many Jain activities. The white idol of Godi Parshwanatha was brought from an ancient temple at Hamirpur in Rajasthan. This temple was first constructed in the Fort region of Mumbai.During early nineteenth century, there was a great fire in vikram 1859. Many Jain families of the fort locality came to settle in the Paydhuni locality. In vikram 1868 the present Jain temple was built.
Mumbai has many vegetarian restaurants. Some of them serve "Jain Pizza". Some housing societies in Mumbai only sell apartments to vegetarians. This has caused considerable controversy.
