[edit] Hey

I hope you don't mind me commenting on your talk page, but concerning Overpopulation if you would look at the edit in question (A.k.a Alienus' revert of my contribution) it would be most appreciated.

[edit] solar updraft tower

thanks for your help. i just wonder why you removed my comment that the betz limit is not relevant to enclosed flows ... are you familiar with it? i would liketo know more.--Flexme 14:48, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi there, I am by no means an expert on fluid dynamics; from Googling I can find millions of pages which reference the Betz limit, but very few which suggest that any wind-capturing turbomachinery can exceed the limit, and those that I did find were rather speculative and theoretical in nature. Given that Wikipedia prohibits including original research into articles, I thought it safer to remove such an assertion until we can establish a consensus as to whether the Bezt limit applies to enclosed flows. If you can explain why you think the Betz limit does not apply, that would help.

Here are some links I found that seem relevant to the subject at hand:

In other words : the Betz limit cannot be superseded, unless there is a an additional. flow of air (which does not pass through the turbine), with which the ...

By way of comparison, modern horizontal axis wind turbine blades typically have an efficiency (Cp is the technical nomenclature) of approximately 30 to 40 percent. The maximum possible efficiency, derived by the fluid dynamics scientist A. Betz and known as the Betz Limit, is about 59 percent. It is physically impossible for any wind capturing device to exceed this limit of efficiency.

The last link talks about shrouded turbines.

Hope that helps,

thank you :) i am trying to work through this ... just a quick comment: a shrouded turbine is not an enclosed turbine ... it is a fan with a ring around it put out in the countryside; an enclosed turbine is a fan stuck inside a pipe.--Flexme 17:28, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Photo of Long-beaked Echidna

You work is excellent! Could the copyright of it be released to Wikipedia and shared in Wikicommon? Since I am writing an article about long-beaked echidna demands photos...

  • Yes, that's fine. i don't know how to release the copyright but if you tell me how I would be happy to do so. User:Jaganath 22:27, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
    • You may upload the file to the Wikimedia Common and categorise in Monotremata. The hyper link of the Monotremata category is [1]

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Jcb dieselmax.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Jcb dieselmax.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 17:07, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

  • Hi, I notice the above image still doesn't have it's source location (either the website address or in the event it is self taken you need to mention that.) If possible location the image was taken and any editing done to it would be useful as well. Thanks, Alexj2002 16:16, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Hi, I have added source info now, please let me know if I need to change the licence or anything like that, thanks. User:Jaganath 19:44, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Kristinkreuk.jpg

Hi, Jaganath. Thanks for uploading the this image, but unfortunately, we can't accept it. Images used in fan magzines or found on websites are usually copyrighted and have all rights reserved, but Wikipedia prefers freely licensed content (where the rights to use, copy and distribute are not reserved). The image is probably going to be delete soon. You don't need to do anything about that. Let me know if you need any help.

This other image also is probably no freely licensed, and is going to experiment the same fate.

This one does not specifies it's source. Where it comes from?

By the way, thanks for uploding that images taken by yourself. It' a great help to Wikipedia! Keep on the good work. Best regards, --Abu Badali 15:35, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi there, I have an image of Kristin that I took myself which I am trying to upload in place of the current one, but I can't seem to get it to work. Can you give me any advice as to what I may be doing wrong? The flow separation pic is part of a stack of pictures I was given by my physics professor when I graduated. --Jaganath 15:40, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Humm... I believe the copyright status for this flow separation is too uncertain for it to be used here. Also, I believe it would be easy for someone (like you :) ) to create a equivalent, (or even better) image to be used in Flow separation article.
About your Kristin picture, I suggest you to upload it to the Commons project. Commons is a Wikipedia's sister project for collecting free images. All images there can be used on Wikipedia.
To upload the image the, go to the Commons upload page. Once there, use the Browse button to find the image on your computer. In the Destination filename field, put Kristin Kreuk.jpg. And in Summary field, paste this (and fill the Date and Author fields):
{{Information
|Description=Actress Kristin Kreuk
|Source=Photo taken by myself
|Date=
|Author= Jaganath
|Permission= {{gfdl-self}}
}}
The "permission" field is where you put the licensing. You may use {{gfdl-self}}, {{cc-by-sa}} or {{cc-by}}. If you fill this, you don't really have to select on license from the "Licensing:" combobox.
After uploading, we will be able to use the image on Wikipedia with [[Image:Kristin Kreuk.jpg]]
Try it and let me know if you have any problem. Note that you image will be the prefered image to be used on the Kristin Kreuk article as it will be the only free image available for this person. No one will be allowed to replace this image by an non-free one (like a screenshot, magazine cover or publicity photo).
Let me know if you need any help. --Abu Badali 16:15, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Kristin Kreuk.jpeg

Thanks for uploading Image:Kristin Kreuk.jpeg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu Badali 14:38, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Insult

I agree that on pulmonary edema the term "insult" was confusing. But please be aware that "insult" in medicine has a rather wide definition; for example, a seizure may be called an "epileptic insult". That's got nothing to do with calling names but it certainly is a pathological insult to a healthy organ or body. JFW | T@lk 19:21, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

  • My counter-point would be that that is an example of confusing medical jargon; Wikipedia's purpose is to enlighten the lay reader, and using unnecessary medical (or legal or any other profession) terms which in day-to-day use have totally different meanings does not aid in this.User:Jaganath 20:51, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Infringement of your copyright

For your information, I discovered that the Wikimedia Commons user Yosh3000 infringed on your copyright by uploading a copy of Image:Yak-141.jpg (commons:Image:Yak-141.jpg) in which the user changed the licensing terms and claimed to be the original author of the work by using commons:Template:PD-self. I have corrected the licence and credited you as the author. LX (talk, contribs) 10:12, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
