Jaganmohan palace

Jaganmohan Palace is one of the numerous palaces in Mysore, Karnataka, India. It is owned by the wodeyar family, who ruled the kingdom of mysore from the medieval times till independence of India in 1947. It is used as an art gallery open to public now. It houses the famous paintings of Raja Ravi Varma. It also houses the famous painting glow of hope by Haldenkar.


It has a rare collection of paintings of viceroys and British generals of the pre-independent times. The works in the gallery can be categorised as follows:

  • Glow of Hope by Haldenkar
  • Paintings by Raja Ravi Varma
  • Colonial Paintings - paintings of pre-independent times, chiefly consisting of viceroys, generals of british army and officials of the British East India Company
  • Tipu Sultan - paintings about Tipu Sultan, his reign, his was against the british, and death.
  • Western - some reproductions of western artists, two of which are of rembrandt.
  • Indian - Paintings by post-independent Indian artists.
