Jack White is perhaps the most incredible musician alive. Ever. That's right. Jack White is a genius and should be addressed as one. His wife, Karen Elson, has been reported as pregnant. She is due in spring. But I love him.

nah he's not all that, he just speaks the truth and nowadays that's so "new" that makes him look like some kind of fucking god or whatsoever. hm he must have some spanish or italian blood (gillis), right? all the articles have something about this and this one has nothing. why?

Added a sentence (with link to an article) about his daughter's surname, since there has been a lot of discussion about whether it's White, Gillis, or Elson on various message boards in the past two days and I thought a clear answer would be useful.

Someone changed the sentence, so I corrected it back to White. I think most people know that his legal last name has been White since his marriage to Meg. If there's going to be any controversy about that, then it should have a separate section in Talk, but I don't think there is, so I won't bother to set one up. • There needs to be an addition to this article about the people Jack White ripped off, or were influenced by, for example, Billy Childish.

Currently, White is touring the new White Stripes album as well as working with local singer "Brendan Benson" to create a new collaboration album which has been compared to Nirvana's classic Nevermind.

Jack White is also related to Canadian Buddy MacMaster, the famous "Master of the Cape Breton Fiddle" and uncle of fiddler Natalie MacMaster.

In many Scottish papers he claims his family are from the Highlands (Roman Catholics) and has been pictured several times with a kilt.

I've got first hand information that the new Brendan / Jack project is not going to be called the Raconteurs. There's already a band with that name, and they won't let them use it. --Unclevortex 9 July 2005 04:50 (UTC)

I think it worth mentioning that Jack White has stated that their is a mix up and that he does not compare it too Nevermind. He said that his friend had been misrepresented in quote. I guess it is Brandon Benson or a friend of his who heard the album about six months before it came out and he had also heard Nevermind about six months 'fore its release. I think the entire name change is this article was a bit hasty. I think it should certainly be included, and it's also cool that wikipedians are on info like this so quickly. But from reports, it seems White is doing this as a shout out to his British fans (since they use the term "quid" there for money) and by some reports, will only do this through the end of his British tour.[1] [2] [3] [4]. I would propose that we revert this article to pre-quid, but keep the part about the name changes, explaining the confusion about his intentions. Three quid can even be included in his name in the intro paragraph a la Sean "Diddy" Combs.

He said he wants everybody to call him Three Quid. I don't see how it could be any more clear than that. We need to accept his new name. --Sonjaaa 19:28, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

I agree that changing the article was too much. Lots of celebrities have entertained changes in professional names--the aforementioned Sean Combs as well as Ol' Dirty Bastard, Snoop Dogg, Pamela Anderson, on and on. Some are temporary publicity stunts (as I feel is the case with this "Three Quid" business), some are contractual, some are legal. In the case of this article, the man has made his career under the name of Jack White, as well as it being his legal name. Why not keep the article under the Jack White title and mention in the introductory paragraph that he also uses the name Three Quid, along with a redirect? --buck 20:44, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, I would propose keeping him as Jack White for the time being. If a reasonable amount of time passes and he sticks with the Three Quid thing, then it might be time to retitle the article. But he's been Jack White since he married Meg, that's what he's been for almost all of his public life, and that's how most people know him.Bjones 14:40, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

Yes, and besides, if we are keeping "Three Quid" (which I propose we DON'T), someone is going to have to change all the linking articles that mention Jack White. It should also be noted that I can find no mention of the name change on the White Stripes official website, which still refers to him by his legal name (as of 11/3). And furthermore, as has been said earlier, Jack himself said that he's changed his name for the duration of the European tour, which ends November 20th anyway. I think this was simply an unfunny joke at rapper 50 Cent, who has a biopic film opening this week. --buck 15:10, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

Every reference to the incident points to it being a temporary name lasting through the UK tour (which concludes next week), and nothing more than a lame joke at that. No, it doesn't say that. Read it carefully, the difference is important. It says "Official wedding announcements stated that it was the first marriage for both." That is true; that is what official wedding announcements stated. The article leaves it to you to draw conclusions (form opinions) about that. Notinasnaid 08:33, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

On the contrary, mug shots are splendid things! Such images are in the public domain, so we don't need to argue fair use on them - see Category:Mug shots. The image wants to be uploaded to commons:, really, if it's not there already. It's not that bad a picture, actually. I think we should place it in the article somewhere, not just link to it. Hahahaha. I think out of all of the celebrity mugshots out there, his turned out quite well! And really... the mugshot contributes significantly towards his character. After all, he is ghostly white with jet black hair and clothes. It's his everyday style!!!

Its because he appeared, with his wife, on The Times rich list for entertainers aged 30 or under from or living in the UK. Karen Elson, his wife, is British; as it was their combined fortune, they got on the list. --Robdurbar 11:43, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

From this article : "Jack White formed the White Stripes with his sister Meg White despite rumors that they are ex's." and from the one on Meg: "Despite claims to the contrary, the two are not siblings, but were married in 1996, at which time Jack took Meg's last name, but they divorced in 2000." Which one is it?

In the "Career" section, it says that Jack met Meg and they were married, but in the "Personal Life" section, it discusses the confusion about whether they were married or if they were siblings. I am confused!

You're suppose to be. when the White Stripes first made it mainstream both Jack and Meg both wanted to give the impression they were siblings rather than having been married. It took a lot of journalistic digging to finally get to the bottom of it. Their marriage and divorce documents coming to light ended the confusion.69.230.187.199 16:59, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Am i the only one who's surprised that greats like Chet Atkins, Glen Cambell and Joe Walsh of The Eagles are not on the rolling stones list of guitarists, yet jack white is? Weird...

That list is a complete joke, Rolling Stone loves Jack White a little too much, and when the list came out White Stripes hype was in full force. They ranked White above Eddie Van Halen and Derek Trucks. I don't know how Rolling Stone defines greatness in guitar playing, but when it comes to technical skill, Jack should not be in the top 20.

I also noticed that. Neither is Dimebag Darrell (If that is how his name is spelled). Jack is good, but I don't think he should have been #17.

Because it is The White Stripes work and not directly Jack White's? Well, done through the White Stripes, not by them. If we put it in Jack's page, would we have to put it in Meg's page as well? Let's not. But it should go in The White Stripe's page.

Corrected baby's surname, again. IMDB is not an authoritative source. The linked NY Post article that stated Scarlett's surname as White (Jack White's current legal last name) was in a mainstream newspaper and is a far better source. If we're actually going to have to discuss what the artist's last name is, please use legitimate sources. The White's divorce decree is readily available and clearly shows that Jack did not change his last name back to Gillis. Ariadne55 05:02, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
