[edit] Bootlegs
Just a query - is it really ethical to discuss bootlegs of Johnson's music, and to have separate articles on them too? Is there a law, or Wikipedia guideline, against promoting illegal goods? Harro5 July 5, 2005 12:03 (UTC)
-
- I don't see what not. It's just information. It isn't a promotion of the illegal goods. conduit July 6, 2005

- Personally, if I knew how to effectively get them, I'd buy these illegal goods. I've tried to ge these songs from several sources and have failed repeatedly.--Brian E. January 4 2006

-
- A bootleg is generally considered a legal or at least legally grey recording of a live event which would otherwise not be recorded. I don't see any problem with documenting them -- 81.157.76.233 21:41, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Learn to write!
- "Johnson has also helped create several movies over the years through the company Moonshine Conspiracy Films, in which his label, Moonshine Conspiracy Records was an offshoot of."
Learn to write for heavens' sake! This sentence amended.
- For heavens' sake, or for heaven's sake? Practise what you preach! Willnz0 08:08, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- To above poster- practise would properly be spelled with a c, practice, so don't jump on correcting apostrophes just yet! mikey 04:05, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ahhh, no it wouldn't. I'm in New Zealand, therefore use British English. Practise is a verb and practice is a noun. Willnz0 00:41, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- No, it really wouldn't correct English (in ENGLAND) would be practice.
- Wrong again. "Practise" in this example is the imperative form of the verb "to practise" and is therefore spelt with an s, as I did spell it. Are you arguing that it's not a verb, or that it is a verb and it should be 'practice'? Either way, in British English, you're wrong. (Practice would be right for an American.) Still don't believe me? Look it up: [1]

[edit] Jack Johnson
What's the big deal with Jack Johnson? Everyone seems to love him at the moment, but I don't see what all the fuss is about, his songs are not that good, and the musical elements of the song aren't all that impressive either... Anybody like to tell me what's so good about him? Being a budding guitarist myself, I can't get excited about his music; it's too simple and not impressive at all. Can't people support truly skilled guitarists (for example, Mark Knopfler, Carlos Santana, etc.) instead of banging on about average Jack Johnson? --şмίғғч™
- Much as I love Knopfler's work, he really doesn't seem to be all that interested in self-promotion (see: how he keeps disappearing from the spotlight, how he used to ask venues to turn their music down when they were starting out); Jack Johnson, on the other hand, is everywhere. And I think Santana's latest, Cry, hasn't been brilliantly received. -- Dandelions 14:33, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- "His songs are not that good" is a subjective opinion. Obviously a lot of people enjoy his music, it just doesn't apply to you. If your contention is that there oughtn't be an article on him, then I could say there shouldn't be an article on Kenny Rogers because in my opinion, "his songs are not that good."63.230.76.110 05:01, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- "Being a budding guitarist myself, I can't get excited about his music; it's too simple and not impressive at all." Hey, I'm also a guitarist and there was a time I would have agreed with you. But if you get into songwriting you'll appreciate (and may envy) his knack for flowing lyrics and memorable melody. Plus, he seems like a cool guy (most singer-songwriters seem like whiny, arrogant dorks).--MoShaw 18:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but there were way to many opinions in that question. How can you call someone "average" when every artist has his/her own different style? And simplicity isn't a bad thing; I personally like simple music. And Jack Johnson's music is almost theraputic. If you're trying to get away from all the bad things going on in your life, you're not going to listen to someone who cusses every third word. You're going to listen to something mellow and calm. And don't imply that Jack Johnson isn't a skilled artist, because he is. And I agree with MoShaw; I envy his songwriting ability. I'm a young poet (which is not all that different from a songwriter) and I can tell that everything he writes comes from his heart (corny, I know, but I can't think of another way to put it). You listen to the lyrics of "Traffic in the Sky", "Losing Hope", and "Constellations", and then tell me he isn't a great songwriter. 65.6.152.184 01:12, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Did anybody notice that noone actually answered that person's question?
- Well, as the above users pointed out, the only real, objective question posed was essentially "Why is Jack Johnson so popular when his music is so simple?" That's really a question of the majority's taste in music. Personally, I love simple music; I believe simplicity is what makes songs like "Seven Nation Army" stay in your head so long. However, not all of Jack Johnson's music is necessarily simple, and I like it all. I like Santana too; I have Supernatural on my iPod. Like I said though, it's really a question of the majority's taste. I think part of it is that, as you said you're a guitarist, so naturally you will appreciate more complex guitar music. Most people don't play instruments, so they appreciate simpler music (and generally despise classical). But that's just my opinion.
It's not about how many notes you play per minute, or how many FX pedals you have on your guitar.----I LIKE THIS LINE..JACK'S MUSIC IS A FEEL GOOD MUSIC..ITS NOT A SHOW OF "IM A GREAT GUITAR PLAYER THAN SANTANA" THING..I FEEL GOOD WITH WHAT I WRITE AND WHAT I PLAY AND THATS WHAT MATTERS :) Taongkahoy 14:17, 26 March 2007 (UTC)FLUFFY Sure, I like guitarists like Tom Morello who are about as far away as possible from Jack Johnson, but when I want to chill out a bit, artists like Jack Johnson just help me along. It's the same with people like Jose Gonzalez. And even if it doesn't float your boat, there's no need to go slamming him. I don't understand what people see in death metal, but I don't go attacking it. Jack Johnson's popular because a load of extremely tensed up people want to feel chilled out and think that buying a CD will help them.
[edit] Red House
Is it important to talk about Red House's set? It doesn't have any impact on the rest of the article. If I wanted to know if Red House liked Pink Floyd, I'd read the article about Red House. Just looking for permission to remove that. In fact, that whole little section is pointless. He told him to "hold up." Awesome. It's really not a very notable story.
[edit] Vandalism?
I just reverted some vandalism on this article ([2]), but I'm not too sure about it. I removed the content because it was uncited and could easily be misinterpreted, but if this was indeed genuine (as some very suspicious content reverted by me has been in the past once) feel free to add it again and tell me on my talk page. --Draicone (talk) 10:53, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm just wondering how you could possibly think that would NOT be vandalism?! Willnz0 23:44, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
THIS GUY ROCKS! he makes the best music, especially the lyricks are good, it gives me a relaxed feeling....

I added an unreferenced tag to the top of the page because the only reference on it is in the first line. Anyone disagree? These7enthprophet 21:25, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] "Early Life"
I took out the section because it was short, and everything it said was restated in the next section. Jack Johnson's songs are awesome! :) .onion 04:47, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Vegetarian
Hey, does anybody know for sure whether Jack Johnson is vegetarian? 'Cause I've seen pages telling this and others telling that, so I'd be grateful if someone could clear me up. Thanks. 62.214.246.1 14:06, 24 February 2007 (UTC) Jan from Germany
