Jacques Gourde (born January 13, 1964 in Saint-Narcisse-de-Beaurivage, Quebec) is a farmer and the Conservative Member of Parliament for Lotbinière—Chutes-de-la-Chaudière. He was first elected in the 2006 federal election and, on February 7, 2006 was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board.
On July 13, 2006, Gourde received heavy criticism because of a provocative arm gesture made during a vote for a farm bill along with Oshawa MP Colin Carrie. He immediately apologized his act but Liberal MPs demanded his resignation. This incident occurred during the same week that another Conservative MP, Nepean-Carleton member Pierre Poilievre, was caught swearing in a Parliamentary Commission. Gourde also received criticism from the Bloc Quebecois on the agriculture issues as the Party wants better measures for Quebec farmers. [1]
Gourde has a diploma in farming management and was a producer and exporter of hay in Saint-Narcisse de Beaurivage. He is married with Mrs. Chantal Beaudoin and they have five children.
