On November 1, 2006, President Treusch announced a donation to university by the Jacobs Foundation, which plans to donate 15 million € per year during the next 5 years. [edit] Trivia
The Jacobs University student body comes from over 86 countries. However, the majority of students are originally from Germany, Bulgaria and Romania. The Asian region is also quite well represented at Jacobs University. Therefore Jacobs University is considered one of the most international universities in the world with around 75% of student body coming from outside Germany.
Jacobs University is known to have a very rigorous academic schedule and most of its students come from superior academic background. The fact that Jacobs University does not prefer any particular nationality in its student body (for example Germans) makes the selection even more rigorous. Students are required to take between 6 and 12 courses per semester which amounts to 30 credit points in the ECTS system, this is twice as much as the amount of credits per semester in most American universities. This, of course, is due to the fact that Jacobs University has an undergraduate program of three years instead of the normal 4 year program.
The most popular majors at Jacobs University are EECS (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) and BCCB (Biochemistry and Cell Biology) from the School of Engineering and Science, ISS (Integrated Social Sciences) and IPH (International Politics and History) from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
