Jacob Manley

Jacob Manley is a fictional character in the computer game series Wing Commander. Flying under the callsign of "Hawk" he is a fighter pilot flying in the Union of Border Worlds Navy in Wing Commander IV - The Price of Freedom and later back in the Confederation Space Force in Wing Commander: Prophecy.

Jacob Manley was born on Mylon II, an economically depressed industrial world. Hailing from a poor family, his academic efforts took him to the Confederate Academy and out of a miserable life on his home planet. Upon graduation he was assigned as a comm tech aboard the TCS Tiger's Claw. Unsatisfied, he decided to enter Flight School. While away a Kilrathi attack flattened his homeworld and killed his family, and Hawk swore revenge.

In the following years Manley quickly became a skilled pilot and spent the last ten years of the Kilrathi war stationed at the Astoria system. After the end of the war he landed a billet as an advanced flight instructor, but he was kicked out of the Academy after one of his students was killed by an asteroid during a training flight.

Hearing that the Border Worlds were hiring experienced personnel for their Navy, Hawk signed and was quickly moved into the position of wing commander aboard the BWS Intrepid, with the rank of Colonel. He flew on Colonel Christopher Blair's wing during many of the Black Lance Incident engagements and, eventually, returned to serve under the Confederation flag when Admiral Eugene Wilford offered him a squadron commander position aboard the newly built Confederation super-carrier TCS Midway.

When an invasion from an unknown alien force in Kilrathi space threatened the Confederation, the Midway was the only ship able to contain the enemy advance, and Hawk proved a valued commander, leading his Black Widows against the enemy and winning some decisive battles. Unfortunately, he was lost during a deep space patrol when his wing was overwhelmed by a swarm of enemy fighters.

Chris Mulkey is the actor who portrays Colonel Jacob "Hawk" Manley both in Wing Commander IV - The Price of Freedom and in Wing Commander: Prophecy.
