Jacob Jehudah Leoni

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jacob Jehudah Leoni was a Rabbi, born in Hamburg in the early half of the 17th century. Although he spent a lot of time in Portugal, he became prominent with work in Amsterdam. He wrote and he designed. See Temple of Solomon for more on his achitecture.

He designed the heraldic symbol - the seal of the United Grand Lodge of England. This seal can be seen at the lodge near Covent Garden in London. The seal depicts 2 cherubs. Strangly the cherubs have goats legs. Is the reference to goats simply to do with the goat being a symbol of the masons or is this a reference to lucifer the light bearer?
