Jacob Hoggard

Jacob Williams Hoggard (born July 9, 1984 in Burnaby, British Columbia) is a Canadian singer from Abbotsford, British Columbia. He finished in third place on the second season of Canadian Idol. He is currently the lead singer of Hedley.

Hoggard had auditioned for Canadian Idol at the urgings of his girlfriend and mother. One of his bandmates bet Jake $150 that he couldn't make it to the top 10. Hoggard won the bet (but not the money), making it to the final three with his unique sound, unorthodox antics, and stage presence. It should be noted that as the contest progressed, some people believed that Hoggard realized that he did not want to win Canadian Idol and be tied down with contracts and recordings that he had no control over.[1] Instead, it is believed that he used the experience as a platform to promote himself and Hedley. Within hours of Hoggard being cut from the competition, Hedley reportedly received many contract offers.

They released their debut album on September 6th, 2005 and had six singles released from their self titled debut, "Villain", "On My Own", "Trip", "321", "Gunnin'" and "Street Fight". A while before the release of their album, Hoggard changed every member of his band. The new members of Hedley are Chris Crippin, Tommy Mac, and Dave Rosin. They have also released a CD single for "On My Own" which includes the songs "On My Own" and "Johnny Falls", released on August 2nd, 2005 and has been recently certified Platinum. "On My Own" managed to hit number one on the charts.

Hedley has been nominated for three 2007 Juno Awards: for Album Of The Year (for 'Hedley'); for Group Of The Year; and for their producer, Brian Howes (for 'Trip', off the 'Hedley' album)

Songs that Hoggard performed during Canadian Idol include:

  • Audition: "Forever In Blue Jeans"
  • Top 32: "Only The Good Die Young" (Billy Joel)
  • Top 10: "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" (Paul Anka)
  • Top 9: "Space Oddity" (David Bowie)
  • Top 8: "Everything" (Lifehouse)
  • Top 7: "Brickhouse" (Lionel Richie)
  • Top 6: "Sundown" (Gordon Lightfoot)
  • Top 5: "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" (Aerosmith)
  • Top 4: "Straighten Up And Fly Right", "Unforgettable" (Nat King Cole)
  • Top 3: "If You Don't Know Me By Now" (Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes), "I Want You To Want Me" (Cheap Trick)

Jacob Hoggard will likely be remembered for giving Ben Mulroney a wet willy live on television and impersonating David Bowie's Space Oddity by dressing in a blue spandex suit.
