[edit] Life history

Davis grew up in Illinois and says that he always felt unique and alone when growing up. This feeling of isolation continued into adulthood until 1969 when the incident of Stonewall occurred, raising the level of gay awareness in general and his in particular.

The first Radical Faerie gathering took place in 1979 but the first gathering Davis attended was the 1983 gathering in Oregon. He says that he immediately felt at home because Radical Faeries is made up of gay men who have not participated in gay mainstream events.

He says of that experience:

I saw all these other fags who didn't fit in, either. They were political, they did ritual, and they were funny. It felt like "coming home"--finding all these other weird people who not only did the same crazy things I did--they appreciated that I did them.[1]

Davis notes that the Radical Faeries lost many great members due to AIDS. He describes watching his friends die. However, he feels that new Radical Faeries are bringing new energy and he is hopeful about the future.
