Jack Ackroyd

Jack Ackroyd (died 1992) was a Canadian police officer. He joined the Toronto police force, and served as chief of the Metro Toronto Police from 1980 to 1984. Following his retirement from the police force, he was head of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario from 1984 to 1990, where he encouraged better customer service and improved screening of products for potential hazards.
He donated the funds for a prize for "academic excellence in police related studies." administered by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Research Foundation.[1]
After Ackroyd died, Ontario politician Robert W. Runciman, the MPP for Leeds—Grenville, said that "Jack Ackroyd set an example that continues to be the goal of Metro's men and women in blue."[2]
