Jac van Steen

Jac van Steen is a Dutch conductor with special links to Britain, Switzerland and Germany. He was born in Eindhoven in 1956 and studied orchestral and choral conducting at the Brabants Conservatory of Music.
In the Netherlands, van Steen was the Music Director of the Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam until 1994 and has since conducted the Residentie Orchestra of the Hague, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Netherlands Philharmonic and the Radio Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras.
Since 2005, he has been Principal Guest Conductor to the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducting a BBC Prom concert with the orchestra. He appears regularly with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic, the Hallé Orchestra, the London Sinfonietta. In 2006, he conducts the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
He has been Chief Conductor of the Nürnberger Symphoniker and Music Director of the Neues Berliner Kammerorchester, and became Music Director of Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, Chief Conductor of the Staatskapelle Weimar, and Orchester Musikkollegium Winterthur in Switzerland in 2002. He has also conducted the Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester.
Since 1992, he has been on the faculty at the The Royal Conservatory of music and dance in The Hague, Netherlands.
