Jabal al-Lawz

Jabal al-Lawz (Arabic: جبل اللوز) is a mountain located in northwest Saudi Arabia. It is located at 28 degrees 41 minutes north by 35 degrees 18 minutes east. It is 2403 meters/7384 feet tall.

It is favored to be the Biblical Mount Sinai by several experts and other individuals, including the following:

  • Dr Lennart Moller -Professor and Dr of Medical Science, Karolinska Institute of Stockholm. His book The Exodus Case-New Discoveries Confirm the Historical Exodus is meticulously written and full of fascinating photographic evidence.
  • Dr B. Michael Blaine - Arch/Curator of the Near East Museum.
  • Ron Wyatt - in 1984, author. Had no official training in archaeology and held no academic position or degree.
  • Howard Blum - author of The Gold of Exodus
  • Larry Williams - Stock trader author of Mountain of Moses Had no official training in archaeology and held no academic position or degree.
  • Bob Cornuke - in 1988, author of In Search of the Mountain of God. Produced a video (Mountain of Fire) that shows this site in Saudi Arabia. Had no official training in archaeology and held no academic position or degree.
  • Josh McDowell - Christian Apologist and author of Evidence that Demands a Verdict, More than a Carpenter, and more than 100 other books on Christian Evidences, Youth ministry, etc.

  1. It is located in ancient Midian, also known as Madia or Madiam.
  2. Has a large desert behind it.
  3. Is located outside Egypt and its territories which included the Sinai Peninsula and Canaan.
  4. Its location agrees with that given by Josephus and Philo.
  5. It has a blackened peak which is not caused by volcanic activity.
  6. Has a cleft in a rock, like that mentioned in the Bible.
  7. Has evidence of an ancient spring.
  8. Is in Arabia, as the real mountain is spoken of in the Bible.
  9. At the foot of the mountain there is a large altar covered in calf drawings.
  10. Has a large pillar like rock which is eroded from the bottom up suggesting that water gushed out of it. Down the hill from this rock there appears to be what was once a lake.
  11. Quail cover the ground, as referenced in the Bible that quail flew from the west and fell to the ground exhausted.
  12. Has a cave as referenced as the place Elijah spent the night on Mt. Horeb.
  13. Has a bush that dates to over 2000 years old (burning bush?)
  14. Has several almond trees (Aaron's staff sprouted almonds)
  15. There are large piles of rock around the base of the mountain (God told Moses to mark out the base so that the Israelites didn't get too close lest they die)
