Do you really think that an NGO recognised by the European Union and the Council of Europe and has played a significant part in lining up single-issue NGOs to deal with major issues together is "not Notable"? WP:criteria seem a bit narrow-minded to me (except of course for garage-bands and electronic games, TV soaps etc.)! ==

Right, if we are going to get picky- their website says that they did that. Let's take the metaphorical Joe Bloggs. He is recognised by the English government as an English citizen, and, due to the three protests he has attented, is (according to his blog site) 'instrumental' in banning fox hunting, preventing the local school being closed, and banning a logging firm from cutting down the local woods. Also, he was a 'majot player' in getting Labout into power. (Well, he voted for them, and persuaded his wife to do the same...) Now do you see why the policy is needed? . . . but your reductio ad absurdum doesn't work because QCEA has had to persuade some very stingy Quakers (no longer Chocolate Magnates or Banking Barons) to fund Quaker House in Brussels and three or four staff since 1979. There is significant external reportage of QCEA's successes but it is not readily available on the 'net. QCEA appears to "do good by stealth".

BTW I think quite a few Quakers are also devotees of the Invisible Pink Unicorn or have, at least long abandoned any traditional theological concepts (e.g. Jocelyn Bell Burnell). Have you visited Swarthmoor Hall? ===Vernon White (talk) 22:10, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

It is more or less a sports league. The 6 schools are all in the same league. I go to one of the schools, so when I saw that our league didn't have a page, I thought I would make one, to kind of have a center point. Also, the first source called OSAA districts, check again and look in the 6A column on the left. The schools are listed there.

Well there are articles that mention the conference all the time in the local weekly paper, and then main local paper publishes league standings and scores from games all the time. Do I need to somehow find links to these stories?Scoreboard 22:42, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

The article (I'm not the author) that you have tried twice to speedy on different grounds has exactly the analogous content to all the other articles on Icelandic presidential elections, which are listed in the chronobox.Didnt you check? No context? The context is Iceland. Speedy on this was not justified at all. Please don't hamper the effective use of speedy by over-using it. I see you want to be come an admin.; you might well get there, but only if you work is a little more careful. DGG 22:38, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Check some other election articles for other countries. They are all constructed just the same. Your dissatisfaction appears to be with the WP policy on how articles on the subject should be written. You are certainly welcome to disagree, and, if you think it worthwhile, try to change the policy--there might be consensus for changing it. But the way to express it is to bring it up on article talk pages, or on the talk pages for the infoboxes, And then, if you still want to change it, open a discussion on it at the Village Pump. Personally, I'd advise doingagainst doing that unless you think you'll have support on that particular issue. I have some policy disagreements, but I havent brought up any there until I have one that I think will succeed.
It is almost certainly not a good idea to express your personal views on policy by speedies. Remember that speedy is only for uncontestable articles--if you think there might be any problem, or that anyone might reasonably disagree, you should use prod or afd. I use prod for borderline cases, so others have a chance to see and comment. WP::CSD--"these criteria are worded narrowly and such that in most cases, reasonable editors will agree what does or does not fall under a given criterion. Where reasonable doubt exists, discussion using another method under deletion policy is recommended. "

Also "Before nominating an article for speedy deletion, consider whether an article could be improved or reduced to a stub; speedy deletion is for cases where an article does not contain useful content" -- I think tis means that an improvable stub should never be listed for speedy. Most people dont list them even for prod, unless a few month of trying havent brought improvement. The deletion process is not intended for poor quality articles, just articles that shouldnt be in WP at all. (Typically, if I see a bad article, i will spend at least a few minutes trying to improve it at least a little)

There are various proposals at various places to end or sharply limit the use of speedy because of this sort of problem. I think it a useful procedure in obvious cases, and I would not like to see that happen. DGG 23:11, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

My first article was horrible, full of NPOV and lack of sources, and editors made me so mad by adding the maintenance tags - but.....that just made me work on it more and more and finally after 5 months it became a GA. I left a copyvio speedy message on the article and what I thought was his talk page (Timbers), but realized it was moved to article page, now he's moved it back, and (I'm confused now). [edit] Unterseeboot 87 disambigious pages

Hello,

I understand your principle but a lot of Underseeboot pages contains disambigious content and that is why I am creating disambigious pages to prevent this from happening even more. It is confusing and much more difficult to clean up later. I can't see it as a problem since the disambigious page contains info. about the different U-boats. Look at other shipindex pages. It is done the same way.

I still don't agree with you since it should be a disambigious page bacause part of the Military History project is to document every U-boats and all 3 or 4 designations of U-boats has been used, but should be documented on separate pages. The comments made by author it refers to a company that manufactures state of the art components for networking infrastructure and is a significant contributor to the maturing 10 gigabit ethernet standard. is significant enough to remove speedy delete tag. J: I want to thank you for your latest note re: the afD debate and note a couple more things. I have been a user(reader) of wikipedia for 2 years now. It took me a while till I decided to contribute some things on subjects that I know. For a couple of months now I have been editing tech articles anonymously with very uncontroversial results, till last week. While your initial reaction was justified and the new page patrol is a worthy goal, you can imagine my surprise when 5 minutes after I saved the first draft it got slapped with a deletion tag. I should note that (i) perhaps I should have done the initial edit in a sandbox, and (ii) due to the deletion tag the article is much improved now. However the article might have reached the same state if you just wrote to to me about notability and references and gave me a day or two to fix it. Depending on the authors' mood the speedy deletion process can quickly degenerate to an unnecessary flame war, despite the fact that the process might have started with good intentions. I'm not sure why you through up a speedy deletion tag and why an admin deleted the content and redirected this article. You're reason for doing so was:

Non notable website- it would probably best serve as a redirect, but I can't work out where to. There is no article covering all of the Oxford libraries.

When doing a google search of "Oxford Digital Library" (with quotes) I get more than 13,000 results. The digital library contains digitized material covered over the past 400 years. I'm forced to strongly disagree with throwing up a speedy deletion tag. If you don't mind I'll be restoring the article. If you would like to nominate the article for deletion feel free to do so, but I think it would be wise to gain consensus first. Chupper 21:40, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Gotcha. I was getting you confused with the other guy. I mean if it is being deleted for lack of notability, that's one thing. But if it's being deleted because it's a stub, and information is written in another bigger article about it, then why does Wikipedia have stubs in the first place? I don't know. My idea for articles about attacks by terrorist groups is to use the term "List of NAME attacks". NAME is the name of terrorist group. It should be a standard name of category in Wikipedia. If you try to find an analogue of PKK, we should remember LTTE. LTTE is the Sri Lankan version of PKK. They are similar; one can say the major differences are their countries and names. I can give evidence for this. What I was trying to change was the name "Turkish-Kurdish conflict" for a more proper name, not the article's text. If there is two identical twin groups, names should be similar. If you call one article “Terrorist attacks by LTTE/PKK Sri Lanka Version", another one as "Causalities of Kurdish-Turkish conflict", it is not objective. I think names - excluding the word "terror"-, should be changed into "attacks by LTTE/PKK Sri Lanka Version", and "Attacks by LTTE/PKK Turkey Version". (My name using the word terror for this article is not good). Former name was "Civilian casualties caused by PKK"; it was not founded as objective. (But, in LTTE and ETA articles this name is used and it is not founded as against objectivity.) Now, the name is "Causalities of Turkish-Kurdish conflict" which is not objective.

"Turkish-Kurdish conflict" name is not suitable for the article name because there is not an ethnic conflict. Do you have any proof for this? There is a Kurdish problem in Turkey. PKK, a Marxist group supported by some Kurds attacks Army, Kurdish feudal forces that support government and civilians. This is not a ethnic conflict because in Turkey, there is not a political tension between Turkish and Kurdish speaking groups. They make marriages; many Kurds live in areas with huge Turkish population. There are Kurdish speaking ministers, i. e. Mehdi Eker. To name this problem as a "Turkish-Kurdish conflict" is not objective, it is pure PKK propaganda. For example in India there was "Muslim-Hindu conflict", people were killing each other. It is not the same as Kurdish problem in Turkey. (See Mustafa Akyol’s book on Kurdish problem in Turkey.)

I created Help:A simple composite example as a copy of m:Help:A simple composite example because it was referenced (as the first link in section Help:Template#Composite_pages) by Help:Template, which was copied from m:Help:Template multiple times over the years. Help:Template says very specifically at the top of it "This is a copy of the master meta page at Meta. Do not edit this copy." and "Edits will be lost in the next update from the master page. See below for more information." I've added a reference from the Tennessee State Library and Archives, a genealogy website, and the website of Congressman John Tanner (US House of Representatives). I would suggest you to arrange a wikiproject "Given names" and process the whole Category:Given names in an orderly fashion, inviting interested people. After some trivial names deleted, quite possible they will be recreated, so I'd suggest to discuss the criteria of existence of such articles, possibly merging related, such as Alexander and Alexandra, Alessandra and clearly separating given name articles and disambiguation articles. `'mikka 00:13, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Sorry it's taken me a while to get the hang of replying. I wrote the Impalement Arts entry from scratch (using sources which I hope I have fully attributed in the entry). Thanks for your positive comments. I'm used to rigorous requirements for referencing from academic study in recent years. I also like to think I'm fairly rigorous with style and format because I used to produce websites for a living as well as working as an editor.

I've made an edit to the Knife throwing page to include a link back to the Impalement arts entry. Also removed a small amount of content that was duplicated there and is probably better within Impalement arts rather than in Knife throwing - which I suggest is now devoted to the mechanics of throwing and to the competitive sport side of things. I noticed that you nominated the article for notability reasons. However, the author was only in the beginning stages of the article, having just completed the info box. Articles are not always in perfect form after one edit. Some authors will start small and then add more. As a result, I removed the SD tag from the article in order to give the author a chance to add some content. There is a criterium for speedy deletion for dab pages with just one link, but I think that one is meant to be used in clean up if an unencyclopedic article is deleted. If the links on the dab page point to possible encyclopedic articles, in my opinion the page is already useful by pointing out that there are several possible meanings; such a page should not be deleted, I think.

The main accomplishment for which Pereyre is remembered by history is his writing out phonetically, according to modern French phonetics, the transliteration of the Mahzor (holiday prayerbook) of the Jewish community of Bayonne and Bordeaux.

I edited last week (unsourced as you say) as I did not have a Wiki username. I am actually quite a reliable source as I have most of the case files in my office and sat in the court room every single day of the 8-week trial (except 2 days), and made my own notes. Some of the content on the freegordon website contains minor errors as it was written by others (e.g. press articles and the Judges summing up are near perfect but not quite) but I don't feel it's my place to edit those because of copyright / other issues.

The reason I leave this message is because there are still some inaccuracies in your latest edition (leaving aside comments you might regard as biased). Notable errors are:

Mention of the ice axe, what was actually said about it, and when it was said, how the ice axe got into the case at all.

Also the rock and the slate. You have those mixed up i'm afraid. All my comments about the geology and continuity of evidence are accurate.

Wainwright was never a cellmate of my Dad's.

I think your use of words "false evidence" could give the wrong impression.

My assessment was based on the fact that although it was a rather small article it had inline citations, which elevated it from Stub to Start. To improve this article I would suggest trying to expand it as much as you can - it's so small that's all. There's no info about the recording of the albums and so on and how they evolved into the fully realised release, how he signed to certain labels etc. Since the band is metal based and is small, there must be a few webzine interviews lying around you can use for sources. A quick Google source threw up this one. Good luck with the article, and feel free to join in the Metal assessments (I'm currently a lone party in that). I personally like the philosophy that Wikipedia is not paper, but I know saying that counts for nothing in an AfD, and have seen notable articles deleted for no good reason (that's why I said I don't understand how WP:N gets used in practice - as far as I'm concerned it doesn't). Hi, I am doing work on the lists of films by country and came across your notability tag on Greek film I Phouska. I have gone through several thousands of films which are about as insignificant as this one and I am fighting to keep some limiting factors at least when film entries in lists are red-linked (see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Films/List and navigation management). I am glad to say that there at least there is some agreement. Months ago, I started a discussion in Village Pump about film notability, which has been deleted since, where it was mentioned that per policy, any film that was ever screened and for which acceptable references can be found is "notable", although project specific guidelines could restrict this. So I tried to reawaken a sleeping page on film notability (Wikipedia:Notability (films)) by posting messages in various directions. The result was that after it was heavily edited by user zadignoze, it was rejected again. For a relative discussion about this, see also here*. I see only one viable way ahead (unless of course Notability (film) can be somehow rewitten and accepted as official guidelines) and that is to let all the thousands of unimportant film articles just be. Looks mostly fine to me, though the structure may need a look. For example, the "Desolate North" subsection of "Musical styles" makes no reference to the album so at present either a title change is needed, or you need to proper clarify the subject in the writing. Right now it seems like a generalised description of the band's music as opposed to a description of the music of Desolate North. More of the infobox needs filling in, such as "Years active" and the band's official website URL.

Saying Desolate North receieved mostly positive reviews would be POV. To avoid this, say "Critic X of Y magazine said "this album is good", whereas Critic C of D webzine said "this album rocks"". This would avoid slight POV which is in the "History" section.

Keep looking for more info, such as recording location etc. It's probably B now (and more deserving than some other B class articles), but it'd need further expansion and structural work for GA. You've chosen quite an obscure band to work on - I wish other metal fans would do up stubs like this. Oh well... LuciferMorgan 16:12, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Seegoon and Ceoil are rather good at reviewing music articles, so if you want another pair of eyes to look at it, kindly ask them and say I recommended them. Really, if you keep at this one I think it could eventually find GA - depends on available sources really. As concerns any other bands to work on, to be fair there are a ton of them that need TLC, so you're spoilt for choice. I'd try your best to get this one to GA before working on other bands though, and I hope googling will throw up more interviews (they're good for info usually).
