James Tiberius "J.T." Yorke (1989-2006) was a fictional character on the TV show Degrassi: The Next Generation who was portrayed by Ryan Cooley.
J.T. lived with his mother and grandma. When he was young, his father abandoned him and his mother. Also his mother has never been seen in the series, not even when he was hospitalized. Thus it can be concluded that his mother is either away a lot or simply does not care about him.

[edit] Season 1
He was first seen in Mother and Child Reunion Part 1. He introduced his friend Toby from summer camp to his life-long friends Emma and Manny. In this season he's noticed to be the class clown. His immaturity led him to getting Ashley Kerwin in extreme trouble when he brought a drug to her house party. This season was also the beginning of a crush that Liberty had on him, the girl he was least attracted to at the time.He even pretended to be gay just to get her to stop crushing on him.
[edit] Season 2
[edit] Liberty continues crushing on JT
Liberty proves that she is not so boring as JT thinks, which is why she used a marker to write on his locker. That action in turn got him into trouble and Liberty later said she did it. When she did that action, JT called Liberty cool. Liberty still has a crush on him. He proves that he is still the class clown by getting Toby in trouble with Spinner when JT goes to buy some condoms for Toby to be prepared with Kendra, Toby's girlfriend and Spinner's adopted sister.
[edit] Season 3
[edit] JT's Crush on Manny
He is one of the people who first noticed Manny's change by getting the infamous rhinestone thong. He develops a crush on Manny at the beginning of this season and they get together towards the end of this season. Although he liked Manny, he once had a wet dream about Liberty while sleeping over Toby's house.
[edit] Season 4
[edit] Relationships with Manny and Liberty
J.T is now going out with Manny. After seeing Craig's "size" in the locker room, J.T feels inadequate. His friend Danny, Liberty's brother, and Toby help him get a penis pump and J.T decides to use it when he and Manny hook up that night. Manny catches him using it, and she dumps J.T. the following day for being so immature. When he and Liberty work on a school play inspired by the school shooting episodes earlier, he realizes how blind he was for all of those years and he finally returns her love when they shared a kiss in detention. They continue going out through Season 5.
[edit] Season 5
[edit] JT is thrown into the "Adult World"
After dating Liberty for several months, Liberty learned that she was pregnant, JT being the father. JT soon broke up with Liberty, because she was too controlling. JT decided not to abandon Liberty, because his own father abandoned him. He got multiple jobs, including being a clerk at a drug store and being "PJ JT", a host of a kid's television show. Even with all the jobs, JT couldn't afford an apartment that he and Liberty were trying to buy, so with the advice from Jay Hogart, JT decided to sell oxycodone to a drug dealer. When Liberty found out, she told JT to get the drugs back, and confess. While trying to get the drugs back, JT got beaten up, and he decided to over-dose on the pills. While in the hospital, Liberty told JT she was putting the baby up for adoption. From then on, Liberty avoided JT, and he only got to see his baby for a brief time.
[edit] Season 6
[edit] Dating Mia Jones
In his senior year of schooling, J.T. decided to date 16-year old single mother, Mia Jones. After finding out about her child, he then took back his old TV job to get her attention. It worked, and the two started to date. he really likes her.
[edit] Liberty's Jealousy
In the episode Eyes Without a Face, Pt. 1 Liberty started to show a vibe of jealousy when she saw her ex, J.T. asking new girl, Mia Jones out for ice cream with Mia's daughter, Isabella. Her jealousy over Mia and J.T. escalated when Liberty told Mia all of J.T.'s dark secrets, putting their relationship in dire straits. During a Student Council meeting, she turned down J.T.'s idea of having a daycare at Degrassi without even hearing J.T.'s pitch, saying that it would only benefit his girlfriend. Mia stood up and said she wasn't alone. J.T. finally lashed out at her, reminding her that he supported her throughout her entire pregnancy, even when she gave up the baby that was also his, and accused her of wanting J.T. to be as miserable as she is.
[edit] JT's Death
J.T. ended up in a serious rivalry with Lakehurst. As the tension mounted, J.T. agreed to a street fight with them and convinced Derek and others to join in the fight. Toby refused to participate, and begged J.T. not to do it. Mia arrived before the Lakehurst gang and convinced JT and friends to leave. When J.T. didn't show up, however, Nic and his thugs found Toby and beat him up, which left him wearing a cast on his arm and a neck brace. J.T. is shocked and ashamed about what happened, and Toby pleads with him not to pursue the rivalry any further.
In the episode Rock This Town, Emma and Manny hold a birthday party for Liberty at Emma's house (suggested by JT). After Liberty confesses she still loves him and runs off, J.T. talks with Toby about his feelings for Mia and Liberty, using a meatball sub and oatmeal as euphemisms for them, respectively. When he leaves the party to look for her and, presumably, tell her that he still loves her too, he finds one of Nic's thugs, Johnny DiMarco, urinating on his car, and starts talking back. Thinking the thug and his friend were leaving, J.T. gets in the car and the other thug, Drake Lempke, stabs J.T. in the back. Liberty sees the two boys running off and finds J.T. She, Emma, Sean, Manny, and Toby accompany him to the hospital. The doctors were unable to repair his aorta, which was punctured by the knife, so J.T. died.

[edit] Trivia
- JT's full name, James Tiberius Yorke, is a reference to Captain James Tiberius Kirk from the classic Star Trek series.
- Ryan's last words on the show were "Oh I get it, my car sucks. Ha ha. You guys slay me with your humor"
- What is ironic is JT said "you guys slay me with your humor". In reply, the killer said "laugh at this" and went on to literally "slay" him.
- The last word he said was "humor." JT was known for his humor throughout seasons 1-6.
- In "What's it Feel Like to be a Ghost"? part 2, Toby makes several references to JT's rivalry, this can be seen as a deadly omen for the unfortunate things to come. His statements include "Lakehurst is gonna take you off the menu...of life." and "I hope you enjoy that burrito, because it may be your last."
- In the last scene of "Rock This Town", the characters that were in seventh grade in the beginning of Degrassi: The Next Generation (Emma, Manny, Sean, Toby and Liberty) minus JT are shown.
