You did not mention any specific article you to which you were referring, but based on your edit history I am assuming your query refers to the article Media General. The {{peerreview}} template was removed as part of a cleanup of old and incomplete peer review requests because the peer review request was not completed. Adding the template is only the first step in submitting a request, and is followed by several other steps (the full instructions are available in the header at Wikipedia:Peer review). If you are still interested in having the article reviewed please feel free to resubmit the request. --Allen3 talk 15:47, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hello: Wickiah Piissaaah

Hi I'm a new Wikipedian from Natick, Mass (A Mile 1/2 From Rt 16)... just popped in to say hello to a neighbor: I'm old enough to remember everything around here being "Wickiah Piissaaah"

  • Hi I Am Marc:

I was recently married to my lovely wife; We have lived together for several years already...

  • We love cats (3 currently own us)... Jeffy(15), Echo(6) & Gizmo(3). All sleep with us in the big bed and no room to move an inch.
  • I was Disabled in a 1993 (Coma)/ and am very slowly recovering. It's tough going out sometimes, though with friends I still do. I have a few supportive friends.
  • I am an "Unenrolled voter." Democrat/ Republicans, I don't care, whoever serves makes my life better in the long run I vote for!
  • Avid reader. Has collection of many hundreds of rare books. Especially Science Fiction and Fantasy.
  • Avid Music collector (2,500 albums)...mostly bootlegs...mostly rare bootlegs...Stones, Kinks, Clapton, Beatles. and solos!

I am what I am I'm strongly opinionated about disabled peoples' rights and jobs for American citizens who have trouble finding minimum wage jobs in my state today and support Universal health care, I would be dead if I did not have it. I am an idiot about Internet social skills. I hope that the Immigration Reform bill will protect disabled citizens who wish to work like myself first before considering allowing new people to come here. I was searching for an internet forum to be my outlet to express my needs, but found that Wikipedia is not best suited for that. I'm brushing up on Wikipedia's rules of conduct, and slowly starting to begin contributing again.

Current book and CD I own hundreds of rare books

  • Current Book Jack Whyte: "Uther"
  • Current CD Faves:

[edit] George W. Bush 2nd(second nomination)

Come out and vote, nothing but one big long leftist diatribe, should be removed and covered from scratch in a more NPOV style,Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/George W. Bush 2nd(second nomination), your vote may just give us the fresh start needed to root the deep seeded liberal POV from this article by allowing us to start over from scratch, thanks for your vote! --Ham and jelly butter 22:06, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User talk:Musical Linguist

Don't leave Test templates on the Talk pages of admins reverting spam. Please find some other way to entertain yourself in the future. Jkelly 23:48, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

I doubt that User:Musical Linguist would have edit-warred if you had simply reverted her edit. Your calling her removal of spam vandalism was what brought me here, but I encourage you to review Wikipedia:Userpage, as well. You do have great leeway in how you edit your userspace, but you don't own it. It may be edited by other parties for a number of different reasons, including the removal of edits from banned users. Jkelly 00:53, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No personal attacks

Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. Jkelly 00:55, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

C'mon... "they need to get a life"? I cannot stress enough that no one here has freedom of speech. We're all expected to be WP:CIVIL, for instance, and people get blocked for making personal attacks or making legal threats, either of which could be called "free speech". There's an essay at WP:FREE about "freedom of speech" that may or may not be worth reading, but the point is that this is a private website created for the purpose of writing a free, reusable enyclopedia. It's not at all a place where editors should feel free to indulge in personal commentary or name-calling. Jkelly 01:10, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re Talk Page Support

Thanks for your support. I swear these guys pick an ideological opponent at random, vandalize their page, and then watch it very carefully so responses so they can begin trolling.

MSTCrow 00:52, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "SPAM"

For you to want to keep the "Spam" on you page would likely not have been a problem. If you had simply reverted the message back onto your talk page, and left a polite note to Musical Linguist (like the note you now have at the top of your talk page), I don't think this would have escalated at all.

Instead, you went and gave her a vandalism warning. The problem is, on WP, the word "vandalism" means very specific things. Far too many people, however, toss the word out as a label for most any action that they disagree with. I'm sorry, but just because you disagree with her actions, does not make it vandalism. There are several types of actions that are regularly done around the project for the good of the project that remove inappropriate additions. True vandalism, personal attacks, threats, advertising and other types of Spam. All are routinely removed as being harmful to the projects. There is nothing vandalistic about removing things that are harmful to the project.

I think you handled this inappropriately, overreacted, and attacked someone who was acting for the good of the project. (Improperly labeling them a vandal was the attack) Sorry, but that's how I read the situation. - TexasAndroid 13:02, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject South Park

I have thought of creating a WikiProject for South Park since it is now near its' 10th anniversary and has more articles than ever. I feel we could all do the following things through this project:

  • Cleanup any short/poorly written/unformatted articles
  • Merge/lengthen the many character articles
  • Improve the South Park main page

I have seen your South Park fan template and wondered if you were interested in joining. If so reply to my talk page and I'll get back to you as quick as I can. Thanks, Mr. Garrison--ChaplineRVine(talk ¦ ) 03:00, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] hey

I saw your userboxes and stuff. I like your userbox about the Wiki police state and the image you use for it. I am not a right-winger, conservative or Republican, although the admins have accused me of being one. I am also not a left-winger, liberal or Democrat. I refuse to step into the wing, and have never been there. (Well no longer than a minute, anyway.) I was wondering if I could use your anti-police state userbox. Thanks for making it. I'm new on Wiki and have been blocked twice so far for basically talking out against the police state, but with the excuse of PA, which I did do. Here's a link to a comment I left on Jimbo's page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Jimbo#trying_to_save_Wikipedia

Please don't be offended by how I feel about the radical left and right. We all have the right to think and say how we feel about anything. I hate the police state as much as you do, and know that it is left-wing based in power, etc.

Thanks for reading this, and if you respond to it, thanks for that, too. yours against the police state and in freedom. thewolfstar 00:10, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey Jerry, I guess you know that I am pretty new at Wikipedia but am being watched like a hawk. I need all the help I can get at this point. I've been harassed, lied to, insulted, lawyerized in debate and blocked four times since I joined on 3/22/06. And it was done illegally each time, I checked into it carefully. [edit] Censored by admins

Yet another user banned by Wikipedia Admins, qualified by a nonsensical and highly illogical alleged breach of a policy totally unrelated to the evidence presented by the blocking Admin.

YOU MUST NOT DISAGREE WITH THE VIEWS OF ADMINS OR YOU WILL BE BLOCKED!

[1]

"This user User:J.sweeton@wnri.com have been leaving personal attacks calling wikipedia admins, the secret police and that I'll be damn if I let them do this without a fight! on the userbox debates [95] and his userpage is close to trolling. Not sure what to do. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 02:29, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Blocked for 24 hours, clearly unacceptable. --Cyde Weys 02:39, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Agreed. This guy was trolling in a huge way. HOW many dozens of pages did he copy/paste the same text to? --InShaneee 02:42, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
This is definitely one to keep a close eye on once this block expires. He doesn't seem like a good candidate to reform. --Cyde Weys 02:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)"

Hmmmm, lets examine that shall we. Cyde Weys is the admin who nominated Template:User sum for deletion, the result incidentally, being 39 'keeps' and 3 'deletes', including Cyde Weys own vote. User:J.sweeton.40wnri.com was one of those who expressed a strong desire to keep this userbox. Cyde Weys is the admin who blocked User:J.sweeton.40wnri.com. He doesn't seem like a candidate to reform? Nice to know that wikipedia admins are Assuming Good Faith, and not attempting to discredit fellow wikipedians. Oooops, my mistake.

Blocked for making some vague comments about Wiki Secret Police?

No surprise all the best editors have already left. Half these admins must be employed by Encyclopedia Britannica.

(OMG!!!!!!!! A PERSONAL ATTACK!!!!!!!)

Cyde put me on a 24 hour block without fair warning. In addition, he has also deleted my userpage. Can anything be done about this serious abuse of power? Jerry G. Sweeton Jr. 03:21, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Pretty obvious disruption / personal attacks, this ones is valid and is hardly admin abuse -- Tawker 03:24, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
How was it disruptive and who was I attacking? Jerry G. Sweeton Jr. 03:27, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
See the userbox debates, calling wikipedia admins the secret police, don't say that again as it was a obvious personal attack. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 03:33, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
Where did I say wikipedia admins were the "secret police"? The fact is I did not. Jerry G. Sweeton Jr. 03:35, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
On at least 10 TFDs. Your activities on TFD alone are block worthy, and your spamming user talk pages requesting unblocking is not making you look any less disruptive. FeloniousMonk 03:37, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
The block template suggests the blocked user may like to contact administrators plural. In my recent experience a significant number responded sympathetically to me. There are good admins and bad admins. Although I make no inference about this particular case we need as a community to address the issue.Mccready 05:24, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
I never said wikipedia admins were the "secret police". As far as the TFD's are concearned, am I not allowed to weigh in the the subject? It just happens to be something I feel strongly about. And, let see.....spam....hmmm....I don't see any spam! If you could be show it to me? Thanks! Jerry G. Sweeton Jr. 03:42, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
See here. --InShaneee 03:54, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
You are not alone he is blocked me and many others without even giving the a fair warning. And if you think thats bad you should see how many times he has violated WP:BITE on this site. I have been trying to explain for a while now that Cyde abuses his powers, but nobody wanted to listen. Now Cyde is getting his, karma Cyde, karma. --GorillazFan Adam 04:11, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm listening. --mboverload@ 09:13, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
You really might want to investigate these potential "allies" before joining sides with them. Here's a hint ... most blocks by admins are for good reason. --Cyde↔Weys 11:57, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
...Someone is completely oversensitive. Calling an admin a troll is one thing, expressing your opinion that a small contingent of admins are trying to kill the userboxes as the secret police is another. Get a backbone. Jesus christ, send him a message saying that doing that kind of thing is not acceptable. Admins are supposed to be models for how people should act. That is CLEARLY not happening in this case. Looks like my next option is initiating a straw poll against this kind of abuse. --mboverload@ 09:18, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
Actually, he also had a section devoted to blocked users who were "victims" of the "Wikipedia Secret Police". These users had nothing to do with boxes (see Thewolfstar (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) for one). We don't need this kind of bullshit. Mackensen (talk) 13:31, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

The heading of this section is "Vandalism by Cyde", so, exactly what vandalism am I being accused of? --Cyde↔Weys 10:55, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I see it has been turned into a better name now :-P Cyde↔Weys 11:55, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
That's unsat. WP:CIV doesn't get magically turned off and on, and it applies to everyone editing wikipedia, regardless of how "wrong" you may think that they are. Please try to set a better example, everyone. I've made the section heading neutral. - brenneman{L} 12:16, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User page deletion

Further, looking at the last version of the page prior to deletion, I'd call it uncivil in some bits but hardly warranting speedy deletion. Am I missing something? - brenneman{L} 12:22, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Did you miss the edit summaries he used on his page? It's obvious this guy is a mere troll, and everything he was putting on there was purposefully inflammatory. We don't allow Wikipedia to be used as a free webhost for such nonsense. --Cyde↔Weys 12:24, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
Right, and are you aware at all of the history of previous attempts by admins to "supress trolls" via deleting their user pages? DeeCeeVoice, SPUI, etc? Do you not see that by deleting it you are falling for his con? What happens if I simply ignore him and get on with the real business? Sure, the sections on "This user is opposed to the Wiki-Police State," and "If anyone has evidence of an admin deleteing something from your User or Talk pages, please let me know. I'm creating a list of these admins. Thanks!" are juvenile and pointless but by rising to the bait you prove his point. The same with the userbox deletion, you're stuck in a cycle of butting heads, and you're hoping that by mashing the delete button enough times the other people will eventually give upo and go away. They won't. - brenneman{L} 12:31, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
You're falling for his con. You're the one taking his side on ANI. He's getting exactly what he wanted. --Cyde↔Weys 13:12, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
You have User:Cyde/Weird pictures (inderdentaly there are still fair use images on that page) and you think you are in a position to object to others about being inflammatory in the user namespace?Geni 20:01, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

It's deletable trash. If he attempts to recreate it, he will be blocked again for further personal attacks and trolling. --Tony Sidaway 13:33, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to enunciate a principle here: Any administrative action by Cyde Weys, regardless of content or merit, will be challenged on WP:ANI, and linked to userboxes, even if said action did not involve these in any way. Mackensen (talk) 13:41, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Mackensen's Law? I think this might just earn a place on WP:RAUL. ;) Kimchi.sg 14:06, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
It's pretty disingenuous to suggest this has nothing to do with userboxes. At least let's try to stay honest while we're at it. This was a page with very very tame content. There was nothing on it that was a personal attack, although there were several things that were less than scintillating. To recreate that page would only be "trolling" if the bully-boy crew continues to look for excused to pull on the steel capped boots. Really, don't be daft: Who even saw this page before it was deleted?
brenneman{L} 14:24, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure what that has do with the streetcar running. We can't possibly know who saw it beforehand; for all we know nobody looks at the Main Page. On the other hand, we know from looking at the deleted content that the user was referring to admins (not named, for unknown reasons) as "Secret Police" for banning users over a dispute which had nothing to do with userboxes (I've linked the relevant people above). Steel-capped boots indeed; I wear tennis shoes myself. Mackensen (talk) 14:29, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Did I just imagine that, or did a Wikipedia sysop just engage in a personal attack upon some of his fellow administrators, referring to them as "the bully-boy crew"? Let's see some reasonable behavior. This page is beginning to look like a free-fire zone for unwarranted attacks on administrators. --Tony Sidaway 19:06, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

"bully-boy crew"....."steel capped boots"??? Nice...where did you get that exemption from NPA/CIVIL? Rx StrangeLove 20:19, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your restored page…just a little cosmetic suggestion

It would probably be a good idea in the aftermath of the recent incident if you were remove any actual individual names from your user page. Anyone to whom the situation actually matters will be well-aware of your personal feelings towards those particular editors, and it would give you at least the appearance of occupying the higher moral ground if you were to attempt to make your user page "cleaner than clean", giving no leeway to those who might accuse you of making personal attacks. HTH HAND —Phil | Talk 15:33, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Just trying to express that there are no hard feelings. Jerry G. Sweeton Jr. 16:45, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] admin's point of view

G'day Jerry,

thanks for your question. I'd rather not comment on the issue one way or another, as disputes like that one are what we call "content disputes", and it's not appropriate for admins to use their status to argue for one side or the other. My views on the links are no more important than any other editor. Thanks, fuddlemark (befuddle me!) 11:33, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Jerry,
I'm new at editing Wikipedia, and have been working on Gastric Bypass. I agree with you that blog sites and commercial sites (including individual doctor's sites) are not appropriate external links, and appear to violate WP advisory (WP:EL). There are plenty of valuable sources available, just within the NIH site, for Gastric Bypass. ASBS is a respectable medical professional organization. I'm inclined to add a couple of these, and delete most of the other links, except for the radio-talk link, and for adding ObesityHelp.com. Any comments/advice?

[edit] Redlinks

Have you seen WP:RED? A few redlinks, assuming they point to a relevant would be article, are not a bad thing. Specifically I don't understand your edit of Eastern Test Range to remove the red link to missile test range. Are you saying that missile test range isn't an important topic? Given what I've seen while random article surfing, I'd say it's more important than a large number of existing articles. But then who am I to say that articles on every single pokemon character aren't as important as the work over in Wikiproject Ships on every ship, but I digress. While you couldn't know that I have missile test range on my list or articles to start "real soon now", redlinks also are valid for articles that should exist, regardless if they are planned. Maybe I've overlooked a good reason not to have a missile test range article, let me know. --J Clear 21:31, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Job

Did you get fired or did you keep your job WNRI? I'm rather surprised that you management really didn't realise you were lowering the power Nil Einne 20:47, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

You said you may lose your job a WNRI because management didn't know you were running the station at low power during the night (Talk:WNRI) so you kept trying to remove the info from the page. Or was that just a joke? Nil Einne 17:20, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Patrick J. Kennedy

Hi There! I was reading your revert of Congressman Kennedy's nickname "Patches". Can you give the guy a break? The name is a derogatory invention of one Howie Carr. Thanks for uploading Image:LaSalle Academy Logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. [edit] My concern about your username (J.sweeton@wnri.com)

Hello, J.sweeton@wnri.com, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

Your username is currently an e-mail address that can interfere with some MediaWiki software functions because of the @ symbol. Your user page suggests that you will be changing it soon anyways, but I wanted to provide you with information on changing it correctly.

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

  • If you can relieve my concern through discussing it here, I can stop worrying about it.
  • If the two of us can't agree here, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Admins usually abide by agreements reached through this process.
  • If you decide to just go ahead and change your username, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under the new username: simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account.

Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism (WP:AIV), or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus -- either here or at WP:RFC/NAME. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you again! -- ju66l3r 21:40, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

You are correct.
