J.D. Cronise

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

J.D. Cronise is an American musician and leader of the heavy metal band The Sword. Born in Austin, Texas, Cronise is a lead guitarist, vocalist, producer and principal songwriter for The Sword, which he formed in his hometown in 2006.

Often likened to Tony Iommi (guitarist for Black Sabbath) and Ozzy Osbourne (solo vocalist and former lead vocalist for Black Sabbath), Cronise is sometimes referred to as the leader of the American "mid-2000's retro metal movement". This title is similar to that of Australian-born Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale's (more often cited as the international symbol of retro metal).

As the frontman for The Sword, Cronise and the band have released one full-length album, Age of Winters (2006, Kemado Records) and one compilation (conincientally featuring Wolfmother and several other retro bands) in Invaders (2006, Kemado).
