J.P. Morgan started drawing in second grade, where he confounded teachers with his elaborate, scar-covered drawings of Frankenstein monsters. As he reached high school, he became a fan of Warner Bros. classic cartoons, " Rat Fink" creatures and hot rods, even making some sales to Hot Rod Cartoons, followed by CARtoons (with some longer comic stories). After graduating, Morgan entered Parsons School of Design for three years, learning more about illustration, comics, and animation.

Graduating from Parsons, he continued to pursue writing and drawing comics, with interest in underground comics and Heavy Metal magazine. He also became active in the privately published mini-comics scene of the 80s, publishing a number of issues of Fudgong Funnies. While developing other projects, Morgan came up with the character Fission Chicken (he liked the sound of the name), and went on to create numerous FC stories for Critters, a monthly comics anthology (where, among others, Stan Sakai got his start with Usagi Yojimbo) -- which led in turn to Fission Chicken's own title.

As a shoemaker sticks to his last, Morgan has continued with the adventures of the Chicken of Wrath, with featured appearances from a number of publishers. A long-time resident of New Jersey, his interest in fantastic movies (“good” science fiction, horror and fantasy, as well as 'golden turkeys') influences his work. He cites Gilbert Shelton, Gahan Wilson, and B. Kliban as artistic influences. His favorite authors include Philip K. Dick, Roger Zelazny, and Raymond Chandler.
