J. Laurie Wallace

John Laurie Wallace (b. Garvaugh, Ireland 1864- d. Omaha, Nebraska 1953) was an Irish artist. His family immigrated to the United States at the age of 4. He studied under Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He posed for many of Eakins' works, and in 1881 became his assistant. In 1891, he moved to Omaha, Nebraska to take the position of Director of the Western Art Association. He remained there until 1927, then moved to California. He died there in 1953, at the age of 89. He is now buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha.
