J. J. Sakurai

Jun John Sakurai (January 31 1933 –1982) was a Japanese particle physicist, who authored the very popular graduate text Modern Quantum Mechanics and others such as Advanced Quantum Mechanics.
Sakurai was born in 1933 in Tokyo and came to the United States before entering High school in 1949. He was an undergraduate student at Cornell and received his Ph.D. 1958 from Harvard. He worked at the University of Chicago until 1970 when he moved to work at UCLA. Sakurai died in 1982, at the age of 49, while he was a visiting professor at CERN in Switzerland. He wrote many texts during his career, several of which are still popular. His research concerned particle physics.
