[edit] Rock springs clarifications

"In... February 1884, J.R. Tucker stated that Chinese population in the United States stood at 105,465, or around 0.2 percent of the total population. The U.S. Minister to China, George Seward, had asserted similar numbers in Scribner's Magazine five years earlier."

Does this mean that in 1879, Seward gave the same total for Chinese population? That would imply that it hadn't grown between 1879 and 1884, which seems unlikely. Or does it mean that the Chinese population was still around 0.2% of US, in which case it would be more clear to say that Seward asserted similar percentages five years earlier?

Also, I intend to change the "Tucker used numbers corroborated by Seward" passage to something like "Tucker, corroborating numbers given by Seward". If Seward spoke five years earlier, he can't corroborate something that wouldn't happen until five years into the future. Tucker, however, could corroborate what Seward had said earlier. Advise if this was the intent, or if something else was intended by this part. Unimaginative Username 18:34, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I'd like to clarify this comment. Although Seward can't reach into the future and give additional evidence to support Tucker, Sewards's 1879 numbers certainly could provide a basis for Tucker's 1884 statement. So, "Tucker, using numbers corroborated by Seward's earlier report..." Unimaginative Username 18:58, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Completed the revision of "National conditions" section. Let me know what you think of it now. (Need to do the rest at another time.) Unimaginative Username 19:12, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Wasn't sure what you wanted to do with the broken links - to remove the links or to have them as requests for articles on those topics. Completed all else. Unimaginative Username 01:10, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar! Been away a few days and just saw it. I took the liberty of copying it from my talk page to the main user page, if that's ok :-) Unimaginative Username 18:02, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Geolinks - WikiMapia

Done. Ronbo76 16:43, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

How close did I come to the Ogle County Courthouse? Ronbo76 13:47, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
The coordinates you gave me have been converted and plot out to the decimal ones used on the article's Geolinks. You said the crosshairs need to go left, which I interpret as being west (North would be up; West would be left - all as you look at the north based map used by Geolinks). About how far left do I need to go in terms of feet (5260 feet equals one mile)? Do I need to go North (up) or South (down) also? To the left of the crosshairs, I see a big park about 800' slightly SW. Where is it in reference to that park with the green bushes to the north of the building in that park setting?
That was my initial choice but from the zoom level and where the geodetic coordinates plotted out (along with the article's referenced street, I put the crosshairs on a building that was just slightly south of where they fell initially. I will move now. Should take about 30 minutes. Ronbo76 12:37, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Wikimapia is locking up on me (I am on a new server and all the kinks are not worked out. I think I am within 50 feet of the building. How does it look now with the new save?
I will refine it when my server is fully up. ATT does not kick in for about another three hours or so. Now onto Rocksprings. I used to fly near there and if I remember correctly, its VORTAC says its name in a mechanical computer voice. Ronbo76 13:00, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Used to. I've even taken a hop off the deck of the Carl Vinson. I am now trying to place where Chinatown was in RKS. I found a bunch of articles on the Massacre using this Yahoo search. Any ideas where Chinatown was in town? All references say it was burnt to the ground with this link, Pilot Butte saying that camp was built as some kind of memorial/buffer zone. Ronbo76 13:19, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Our Chalet

You made some good outsider input here, which I do appreciate, but things like World Chief Guide are titles, not "jargon". As for Image:OurChalet.jpg, if you think it's so easily replaceable, find it, because I sure couldn't.Rlevse 10:02, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

You're joking right? "Easily replaceable" includes flying to foreign country to take picture for wikipedia? If another person did so and doesn't make it available on the net, it's not easily replaceable. Try finding replacements for some of the images you mark as such and then see what you think. Rlevse 10:30, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
The key here is the definition of "reasonably can be replaced by free/libre images". IMHO the current intrepretation thereof has entered the surreal.Rlevse 11:45, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Thanks

That's some extensive thanks for such a minor little thing! But yes, all those links in one place like that would've been nice to have had a few weeks ago. You make the criteria sound kind of scary, though -- so picky! Makes me wonder if I should ask you to take a look at the one I nominated yesterday, so it gets such thorough feedback, or not, so it actually passes! :p (And wow you respond fast. Less than a minute after I posted about Our Chalet pictures?) -Bbik 04:24, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Golubac fortress, in all it's remaining timeline confusion. It makes for a nice little list of questions on the talk page. Oh, and at least a couple of the red links should be getting pages soonish, once I figure out how I want to do it. Probably nothing more than stubs, but I'm going with the theory that a longish stub is better on its own than getting mangled and tangled in a barely related article. Thanks :) -Bbik 04:32, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Actually, one of the questions, 6A), you might be able to help me figure out, too, since it's more a general page-naming thing than anything about the fortress. So... if you have any idea how that one should go, please let me know! -Bbik 04:40, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

So, as for whether or not it can all be fixed in a week, I'd like to (probably unrealistically) hope so and at least see what I can do. However, if having red links is that big a deal that it'll fail if it has a couple, might as well just fail it now. While I can make quick stubs for most (to get it down to "a couple" and because I only have enough info for a stub anyhow), the Babakaj and Peace of [pick a name] articles have more info, and I'd just assume make them half-decent or not bother at all, so they'll take longer. (And just in case you somehow didn't notice the string of edits I made to the page in your userspace, I've added a bunch of questions and such there.) -Bbik 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Yup, I just haven't dealt with them yet. Ignore them on the next read-through (assuming you haven't done it yet), I'll fix them either today or tomorrow. -Bbik 16:23, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:An article of interest

Well, I do have access to a library, but I never go. So it would prolly be best if you do what you need to with it. I am going to try and finish up these townships, then move on the to parks.--Kranar drogin 15:36, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] School Districts

Have you seen this page List of school districts in Illinois? I just happened to find it, kinda surprised me.--Kranar drogin 05:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ivo Shander article

I don't really have any idea on what else to include in the article. Is there any possible fair use image you can add for the article at all? Unfortunately, I have not even seen the Ghostbusters movies, which I probably should, since I recently heard their having a remake done soon. It's currently in my Blockbuster queue, but since I haven't seen the movie, I don't really know what else the article should include. Maybe consider a peer review, and do for sure get the inline citations. I'm sure with maybe one or more sections of information (once you figure out what they are about), the article could reach GA. Let me know if the article does get a GA or I can look it over again once I watch the movie. Good work so far. --Nehrams2020 00:13, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Central Park photos

I'd be glad to get you the photos you need. Just give me the list on my Talk page and I'll get them taken. --David Shankbone 12:06, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Chana School

I've just had another look through this, and I think it is now effectively copy-edited. I'll be moving your requests for copy-editing assistance at the League of Copyeditors to "ready for final proofread". Just to let you know... If there's anything else I can help with, let me know! :) Cricketgirl 14:58, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Peer review on Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate

Thanks for your help! I have a question, though: you said "In general rivalry doesn't imply that comparison be made between every aspect of the schools and their athletic program." I'm not sure I understand what you mean. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 18:16, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Uncategorised Stubs

Hi, I notice you've added a number of articles recently on American architects, using the {{stub}} tag. It'd be helpful if you could use a specific stub tag, here {{US-architect-stub}} instead - a fairly complete list can be found here. Thanks, Jeodesic 12:19, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rock Springs Massacre

Hi, I've had a quick look at the intro (see the history). I did some rewording just to make the language flow a bit better, if there's anything that you disagree with, let me know - I don't want to mess up a rather nice-looking article! I'll keep going through it tonight once I've done some more study for this university degree I'm supposed to be working towards... Wikipedia is more fun than quantum physics. Cricketgirl 13:19, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm just finishing going through the article - should be done in about ten minutes. What does rawk mean? Or is that an attempt at Australianising 'rock' :) Cricketgirl 15:33, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks very much for the shiny Barnstar! My first one... I feel so proud. Right, the article is done now - I posted two comments on the talk page which might be worth a look. Happy editing! Cricketgirl 15:53, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
I have coordinates from two sources that place the Camp Pilot Butte, where the US Army troops were garrisoned at the Union Pacific railroad facilities NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES INVENTORY NRHP Nomination Form. From that website and this one (RS SCM 1894 Camp Pilot Butte Medical History. The description of Chinatown reads that was about one mile north of the camp and would be across the railroad tracks which are visible in Google maps of the area. Several small bridges are in the area and a main crosses over into the northside of Rocksprings which would be the Chinatown area. On the Wikimapia map, you can see another user scoped out the UPRR depot along with the old town Rocksprings, the old city hall and perhaps even the church which is alluded to as being built after Chinatown was burnt down. |41.587033|-109.220000 . These coordinates can be displayed at buildscale. When my brain is not mush (later next week) maybe I can find a historic map at a US site I have on maps.
I will place this analysis on the article talkpage if you concur. Ronbo76 18:09, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Historic district (United States)

I looked over the article (sorry for taking so long, I had a busy day of classes) and found a few minor things, mostly grammar issues. I think once you fix the below suggestions you should nominate it (and then wait a month for it to be reviewed!). Let me know if you want any further clarification on these and thanks for the offer of reviewing an article of mine down the road. I want to work on the Leslie Nielsen article soon, but I'm waiting for some free time in my schedule.

  • In the intro sentence, entities is spelled wrong. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • "All but the eponymous district category are also applied to historic districts listed on the National Register. [5]" Remove space between punctuation and inline citation. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • In the Property types section, integrity and integral are spelled wrong. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • In Federal historic districts, physical and separated are misspelled. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • "The Register is the official recognition by the U.S. government concerning the historic or architectural significance of a district or property." This could use an inline citation. Not done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC) Done IvoShandor 07:44, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • "However, if a property falls under one of those categories and are "ntegral parts of districts that do meet the criteria" then the exception for their listing will be made." Integral is spelled wrong. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • In Local historic districts section, Regulations is spelled wrong twice, once in the citation and again in the last paragraph of the section. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • "In addition, the property becomes protected under specific state laws." Could you possibly explain what type of protection? I think you do include some information in a later statement ("Local historic districts usually enjoy the greatest level of protection, under law, from any threats that may compromise their historic integrity."), but maybe move this up earlier if applicable. Not done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
I have somewhat reworded this. I can include some specific state laws that protect properties more (Tennessee) but I think Nevada and North Carolina should be suffcient for the opposite (no real protections). If not let me know. IvoShandor 08:06, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Possibly expand the significance section if possible and integrity is misspelled. Not done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC) Done IvoShandor 08:06, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

--Nehrams2020 03:55, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Good job on fixing all of those (I'm sure the spelling wasn't that difficult). The only other thing I would suggest is to adjust the bottom two images by spacing them out more (perhaps put one in the significance section) and maybe going through and adding more wikilinks you think are necessary. I'd recommend nominating it at GAC whenever you're ready. --Nehrams2020 08:26, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tionesta Creek

I use the USGS maps (via Topozone if I do not own it) or the PennDOT county maps here for info on Pennsylvania geography. There are other branches of Tionesta, but the PA Gazzetter of Streams treats the West Branch as an extension of the main creek for length, so that is why I cited it in the stub. Hope that helps, Ruhrfisch 04:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cheshire Mammoth Cheese

Hi.

Really? I have always been told that perfect citation of references was a requirement for GA status and it has been part of my submissions and reviews!

Nonetheless, the GA candidate list is loooong and I've been looking at helping reduce it. The way I see it is that if Cheshire Mammoth Cheese hasn't been fixed in the specified 7 days it should fail. Time to be brutal....! But, it seems that someone has got there first....
