Ivan Lindsay

Ivan Lindsay (born 1962, London) is a private art dealer specializing in Old Master paintings and Russian paintings. He was born in the London Hospital in London's East End.

Lindsay was educated at Eton College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He served 4 years in the British Army in South East Asia. He started art dealing in 1990.

The art dealing continued a family interest in the arts going back to the 18th century. His father, Thomas Lindsay is a paintings restorer, his uncle, Patrick Lindsay was Deputy Chairman of Christie's and his grandfather, Lord Crawford was Chairman of the National Trust and the National Gallery, London(see Wikipedia, David Lindsay, 28th Earl of Crawford(1900 - 1975).

Lindsay is best known for some of the famous paintings that have passed through his hands and has set World record prices for many artists including Goya(see Wikipedia), Canaletto(see Wikipedia) and Hobbema.

Lindsay also has an initiative to help small museums with a catalogue of their paintings. Two that he has published under his own name are 'Renaissance to Impressionism, Masterpieces from the Southampton Museum, An illustrated guide' and 'The Wallace collection, Jo Hedley and Stephen Duffy, A complete Catalogue of the paintings'. Reviews of these publications can be found in the The Sunday Times, the Art Quarterly NACF, the Times, The Telegraph and The Guardian.

Lindsay is married to Mala Persaud and has 2 sons:-

1. Valentine Amar Lindsay (born 4th November 1999). 2. Leander Vikram Lindsay (Born 6th May 2001).

Lindsay lives between England and Switzerland.
