The Ivalice Alliance is a campaign by game developer Square Enix that promotes several Final Fantasy video games set within the fantasy world of Ivalice with coinciding release dates. The project was announced during a Tokyo press conference in December 2006, and is the latest of several other metaseries compilations, including Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII, and World of Mana.[1]

The project contains three separate games: Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings (a sequel to Final Fantasy XII for the Nintendo DS), Final Fantasy Tactics Shishi Sensō (an enhanced port of Final Fantasy Tactics for the PlayStation Portable), and Final Fantasy Tactics A2 Fūketsu no Grimoire (a sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance) for the Nintendo DS.

[edit] Announcement

On December 13, 2006, a Square-Enix representative informed Tokyo reporters that the earlier announced Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings would be joined by two other games from the Final Fantasy Tactics series in a compilation known as the "Ivalice Alliance".[1] While Final Fantasy Tactics Shishi Sensō, a port of the original PlayStation title, was slated to appear on the PlayStation Portable, Final Fantasy Tactics A2 Fūketsu no Grimoire was not given a specified platform. It was later revealed that Final Fantasy Tactics A2 would appear on the Nintendo DS in an issue of Famitsu magazine.[2]

[edit] Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings

A traditional role-playing game for the Nintendo DS originally announced as a stand-alone title in September 2006 that takes place a short time after the events of Final Fantasy XII. The game retains several characters and locations from the previous game, and follows the exploits of the characters Vaan, Penelo, and their crew of Sky Pirates across the land of Ivalice. Like Final Fantasy XII, much of the action can be set to occur automatically, however the player can input commands using the system's stylus and touchscreen.[3]

[edit] Final Fantasy Tactics Shishi Sensō

A port of Final Fantasy Tactics, originally released on the PlayStation game console in 1997, for the PlayStation Portable.[4] The game utilizes the PSP's widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio and is further enhanced with such features as full-motion video cutscenes and an improved musical score[5]. During the game, the player will assume the role of Ramza Beoulve, a young knight-in-training of noble birth who is branded a heretic by the papacy after an alleged assassination on a high-ranking church figure. His journey leads him to discover the truth behind a secret organization that hopes to revive an ancient evil using stones modelled after the symbols of the zodiac, while a war between two factions vying for the crown rages on. The Japanese title translates to "Final Fantasy Tactics The Lion War".

[edit] Final Fantasy Tactics A2 Fūketsu no Grimoire

A sequel to the Game Boy Advance title Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for the Nintendo DS.[2] The title translates to "Final Fantasy Tactics A2 Grimoire of the Sealed Hole".
