The ITV News at 10.30 is the flagship news programme on British TV channel ITV1. It was introduced into ITV1's schedule as the ITV News at Ten Thirty on 2 February 2004, following the demise of News at Ten. The News at 10.30 includes a 5-minute regional news update at 10.50.

The programme is a half-hour broadcast presented by ITV News' head anchor Mark Austin (Mon-Thu) and James Mates or Alastair Stewart (Fri). It is on the air Monday to Friday from 10.30pm until 11.00pm. It features in-depth reports and interviews from ITV News' top correspondents, following in the footsteps of the prestigious News at Ten. There is a comprehensive sport round-up and a five minute round-up of news from the ITV regions around the United Kingdom. The programme also features a brief business update, and a look at the following days newspaper front pages.

Its main rival is the BBC Ten O'Clock News on BBC One, which airs half an hour before it, and the BBC's other flagship evening news programme Newsnight over on BBC Two.

[edit] History

It was presented by Sir Trevor McDonald under the name ITV News at Ten Thirty from the 2 February 2004 until 15 December 2005 when he retired as head anchor at ITV News. It featured twenty-five minutes of national (UK) and international news, with a dedicated business, sports, and newspaper section. There was also a five minute round-up from the ITV regions.

Mark Austin took over the presenter's chair from Sir Trevor after he retired on 15 December 2005. Austin already presented the ITV News at Ten Thirty regularly.

The programme was supposed to be relaunched in January 2006 as the ITV Nightly News, but hasn't yet happened.

[edit] Other Presenters

The programme will continue to be deputised by those who covered on the ITV News at Ten Thirty. They include ITV News' Senior Correspondent James Mates (who presents on Friday evenings), and Alastair Stewart, who also fills in for Mark when he's off.
