Items from InuYasha the Movie 2

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aside from the Robe of The Fire Rat, which Inuyasha wears throughout the entire anime/manga itself, the following items are exclusively from InuYasha the Movie 2: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass.

The five items required to release Princess Kaguya, the villain of the second movie, are based on the legend which the movie is based on. Each item relates to a challenge Kaguya (of the legend) set forth to dissuade any suitors from marrying her. Additionally, each of the items represents one of the classical five elements in Asian mythology.

[edit] Mirror of Life

After she was subdued, Kaguya was sealed in the Mirror of Life and the mirror was hidden in a shrine within the Forest of Illusion. Nothing is heard from her until Kan'na, using her own mirror and the light of the moon, causing a pentagram to appear on the Mirror of Life and awakes Kaguya.

Even when sealed, Kaguya still has a great deal of power. When freed, she continues to use the mirror, which is a powerful weapon in its own right. The mirror, along with Kaguya's own powers, can alter time and space.

[edit] Jewel of the Dragon's Neck

The first item recovered by Kan'na and Kagura to free Kaguya from the Mirror of Life. It represents the element of metal. Kan'na finds it in a river running through a dragon's skeleton.

[edit] Jeweled Branch of Hourai

The second item recovered by Kanna and Kagura to free Kaguya from the Mirror of Life. It represents the element of wood and is found by Kagura, who brings it to Kanna as she is recovering the Jewel from the Dragon's Neck.

[edit] Robe of the Fire Rat

The third item required to free Kaguya from the Mirror of Life, conveniently found on InuYasha, who wears a robe made from such a cloth. Kagura fights InuYasha and tears off a sleeve of his robe. During the final battle against Kaguya, the sleeve is regenerated (the robe is said to do that, in addition to being strong and flame-retardant). It represents the element of fire. This was also the first time InuYasha saw Kaguya.

[edit] Swallow's Cowrie Shell

The fourth item recovered by Kagura and Kan'na needed to free Kaguya. It represents the element of water and was entrusted to Sango's brother Kohaku by Naraku. Kagura attacks the two demon exterminators while they recover in Sango's village before stealing the shell and quickly taking off.

[edit] Stone Bowl of Buddha

The fifth item recovered by Kagura and Kan'na in order to free Kaguya. After a village is attacked, a priest entrusts a girl with the Stone Bowl of the Buddha. As she lies dying, Kikyo comes through the village and is entrusted the bowl. When Kagura confronts her, Kikyo gives the bowl up without a fight. It represents the element of earth.

[edit] Hagoromo

The Hagoromo or Feathered Robe of Heavens or Celestial Robe is robe of Princess Kaguya. When she first appeared on earth, man stole the robe from her and she flew into a rage, destroying everything in her path. After she was subdued by Miroku's grandfather, Monk Miyatsu, the robe was entrusted to the Hojo family.

The Hojo family was instructed that if a full moon shone for many nights in a row, the robe was to be tossed into Mt. Fushi (Mt. Fuji), an active volcano at the time. Akitoki Hojo is entrusted with this task, but loses the robe to Kaguya when she attacks InuYasha and Kagome Higurashi.

The robe increases Kaguya's power exponentially and allows her to stop time and render the world is a state of eternal unmoving night. After Kaguya's destruction, Hojo recovers the robe and tosses it into Mt. Fushi.
