[edit] Brief Biographical Information
Itayi GARANDE (born March 4, 1971) is a Zimbabwean politician, development analyst, scholar, and human rights lawyer. He attended the University of Zimbabwe where he studied for an LLB, London Metropolitan University (MSc IT), University of Greenwich (MSc World Trade and Development), University of East London (Master of Laws - LLM - passed with Distinction, PhD student). He holds various other qualifications in diplomacy and teaching. He has worked as an intern for the World Alliance of YMCAs in Geneva Switzerland and the United Nations and is also a Diplomatic Advisor to the Secretary General of the Human Bioethics Treaty Organisation (HBTO) on treaty ratification and international negotiations. He is a consultant of the Africa Development Bank - a position he has held since 2005. Itayi has consulted with recruitment and training businesses in the United Kingdom helping them to reach over the £1 million turnover from scratch. He continues to work and study in various legal, commercial and diplomatic fields.

Itayi has written articles on development in Zimbabwe and youth leadership for the YMCA's quarterly publication, "YMCA World". He also writes many newspaper articles on politics and constitutional reform in Zimbabwe, and Africa, in general. He works as an independent consultant on Zimbabwean politics and is an advisor to the Zimbabwe Movement for Democratic Change Party's London Chairman. His current areas of research interests include: Human rights, poverty reduction strategies, international trade negotiations, diplomacy, peace & peacekeeping, conflict resolution. He is currently in the process of developing a "Who's Who type publication" for emerging African leaders and a consultation group (pro bono) for asylum seekers and immigrants in the United Kingdom.

He is a member of the following organisations: The Royal Institute of International Affairs -Chatham House; Criminal Law Network (The Hague); London Diplomatic Academy (where he is listed in the Royal Book of Diplomacy), Development Studies Association (UK); the Global Development Network (where he is also listed). Itayi has given generously to the World Alliance of YMCAs becoming a founding member of the YMCA World Fellowship which celebrated 150 years of the launch of the YMCA in August 2005. He has travelled extensively to South East Asia working with victims of child prostitution and child slavery.
