Italian name
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Names in Italian are often directly derived from Latin ones. While in Latin there were nomen, prænomen, and cognomen, in Italian there are nome and cognome, the prænomen having been absorbed by the nome. Many names are the same as Latin names and praenomina. The only difference is that they do not follow any declension except for gender; usually male names end in -o, and female names end in -e or -a, but there are also exceptions: Daniele is a male name.
The most common names are[1]:
- For males: Giuseppe, Antonio, Giovanni, Francesco, Mario, Luigi.
- For females: Maria, Anna, Rosa, Giuseppina, Angela, Giovanna.
