Italian Radicals (disambiguation)

The original social-liberal and nonviolent Radical Party (Partito Radicale) was founded in 1955 by the left wing of Italian Liberal Party and relaunched in the 60s by Marco Pannella. It ceased all national political activities, and stopped running for the elections late in the 80s. It went then "transnational", and has been active only in the international arena ever since, under the name of Transnational Radical Party, founded in 1989. At the same time some Radicals founded the Rainbow Greens.
After the shift in focus from Italian to global politics by the Radical Party, a number of Radical groups were founded in Italy to keep Radical activities running at a national level too. These groups, which could be affiliated to the new Transnational Radical Party, kept taking part in the Italian elections as well.
Among the new Italian national Radical groups and parties from the 90s on, one finds the Pannella List (then Pannella Clubs' Movement, Pannella-Reformers List and Pannella-Sgarbi List), named after radical leader Marco Pannella, the Bonino List, named after prominent Radical EU commissioner Emma Bonino, the Italian Radicals movement, founded in 2001, and many more minor organizations.
As it is correctly mentioned in the entry, two major dissenting radical, but not-Transnational-Radical and Pannella-led parties are the Federative Radical Movement (grown out in 1982 and then included by the Italian Socialist Party) and the ecologist Radicals of the Left (linked to the Federation of the Greens). However, the most important dissenting group from the Italian Radicals is the Liberal Reformers, formed against the decision of Italian Radicals to join the centre-left for the 2006 election.
