"It's a Heartache", which was originally recorded by Juice Newton, was a bigger hit for Bonnie Tyler. While, Newton's version was released as a single only, Tyler's rendition appeared on her second album Natural Forces and it reached the top five in Britain and in the United States in 1978, leading to her first American tour, and reached #1 in Australia, Brazil and Europe.

The song was later covered by the American country music group Trick Pony in 2005^{[verification needed]}. In 2006, the tune was separately covered by Rod Stewart and Arab Strap^{[verification needed]}. It was recorded long before that by janis joplin in the 60's^{[verification needed]}.
