It's Magic, Charlie Brown

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's Magic, Charlie Brown is a 1981 Peanuts special directed by Phil Roman and of course, written by Charles M. Schulz, which earned him a nomination for an Emmy award.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

In this special, Snoopy takes a book out from the library - on Charlie Brown's card - and the book is about magic, which influences Snoopy to hold a magic show. In the show, he does the "stick-in-the-hole" trick to Franklin, the "amputation-decapitation" trick to Peppermint Patty, cutting Linus' trademark security blanket into strips, the "levitation" trick to Lucy Van Pelt, and biggest of all, making Charlie Brown invisible.

Unfortunately, Snoopy has trouble making Charlie Brown visible again. While Snoopy searches for a counterspell, Charlie Brown realizes he has a golden opportunity to kick Lucy's infamous football without her usual pulling away prank. Taking advantage of his situation, Charlie Brown finally kicks the ball and taunts Lucy about it while the mystified Lucy is at a loss to know what is going on. However, when he tries another attempt, Snoopy casts the counterspell to make him visible again and Lucy does her usual trick yet again.

Despite this, Charlie Brown is happy considering he kick the ball at least once with Snoopy as a witness. When Lucy scoffs at Snoopy, the insulted beagle magically levitates Lucy into the sky and leaves her there. Snoopy and Charlie Brown happily laugh and dance away to conclude a satisfying day, while Linus eventually pulls Lucy down with his blanket.

It has also been released on video, and it's released DVD under the first box series of Peanuts in "Lucy".

[edit] Quotes

Charlie Brown: [after Charlie Brown gets done kicking the football away from Lucy three times]

Charlie Brown [Sarcastically]: What's the matter?

[He approaches her carrying the football, and walks around her]

Charlie Brown: Did you lose something? Is this yours?

[Throws the football point blank into her chest on "yours". She expresses anger silently, then puts the

ball back down in a teed-up position accidentally. Just when she realized how the ball was placed, it

gets kicked away from her again]

Charlie Brown: Ha-ha, ha-ha, ha, ha!

Lucy van Pelt: [after Charlie Brown finally reappears from his invisibility and Lucy pulls the ball

away from him again] Welcome home, Charlie Brown.

Charlie Brown: I did it! I finally kicked that football!

Lucy van Pelt: Oh no you didn't!

Charlie Brown: I did it when I was invisible.

Lucy van Pelt: You can't prove it, Charlie Brown.

Charlie Brown: [as he comes over to them] Snoopy knows I did it. He made it possible.

Lucy van Pelt: Why that stupid dog of yours couldn't disappear himself out of a paper bag!

[Snoopy growls at her for that, then starts zapping her with a spell]

Lucy van Pelt: Hey, what are you doing?!

[She starts rising in the air]

Lucy van Pelt: Put me down! Put me down!

[She keeps rising until she is about 10 feet in the air, then stops]

Lucy van Pelt: Hey! Hey! You can't leave me up here! Hey!

[Snoopy and Charlie Brown start laughing and dancing around]

Lucy van Pelt: Hey, what about me?

[They both run off, still laughing. Calling after them]

Lucy van Pelt: Hey! Hey, what about me?

Lucy van Pelt: Linus, have you seen Charlie Brown?

Linus van Pelt: Nobody has seen him since Snoopy's magic show. I just spoke to Sally, and she says even

when you look at him, you don't see him.

Lucy van Pelt: What's that supposed to mean? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard.
