Isuzu "Rin" Sohma (草摩 依鈴 Sōma Isuzu) is an only child and a member of the Sohma clan in the manga Fruits Basket (she never appears in the anime), transforming into the horse of the Chinese Zodiac whenever she is hugged by the opposite gender or when her body comes under a great deal of stress. She appears only in the manga. According to volume 12 of the manga, Isuzu is the "character in charge of sexiness".

Isuzu's name is derived from the sixth month of the Japanese lunar calendar, Isuzukuretsuki, or "month of the last cool spring days".

The two kanji characters in the name "Isuzu" mean "depending on" and "bell" respectively. Some fans consider the idea of Rin being "depended on" like a "bell" to represent her personality and role in the story. Several members of the family refer to her as "Rin" because it translates to "small bell" in Japanese and "rin" is similar to the sound a bell makes. "Rin" is also an alternate reading of the second kanji in Rin's name, 鈴.

When Rin was young, her parents were affectionate and devoted to her. Since Rin knew that members of the Sohma clan usually resented their cursed children, she asked her parents why they loved her so much. Her question shattered their caring attitude; their affection had been nothing but a façade for her benefit. After that, they never treated Rin decently again. She was neglected and physically abused to the point of being hospitalized, at which time her parents told her that they didn't want her to come home again. This has been one of the reasons as to why Rin dislikes being in the hospital and often tries to sneak out before she has fully recovered.

Rin is a willful, proud woman who despises the way the other members of her clan submit to Akito. Although she isolates herself, she can occasionally be seen in the company of Hiro, who along with Haru, Kagura, and Kagura's mother, were the only visitors Rin had during her stays in the hospital.

Rin resides at Kagura Sohma's house and recently graduated from a girls' private school, although Akito prevented her from attending the graduation ceremony. Rin suffers from stomach ulcers and eats little, due to stress and psychological trauma. In addition, she feels uncomfortable eating around others, with the exception of Haru and later, Tohru Honda.

Rin learned about Tohru from Haru. He told her that she was able to help people because she was kind. When Rin first saw Tohru, she recognized Tohru's gentle personality and felt the urge to run to her and cry. Rin felt guilty about taking advantage of the kindness of people like Tohru (and Haru), however, and tried to stay away from her.

When Rin visited Shigure to find out if he knew how to break the Zodiac curse, she threw up and had several dreams about her parents. When Tohru came into the room, a very confused Rin thought that she (Tohru) was her own mother and began screaming for her not to be mad at her. Later, Tohru asked Rin if she knew a way to break the curse. Rin became upset and feared that there was no way. Tohru argued back that she would find a way, no matter what the cost. Rin then ran outside and sat down on the porch and let Tohru hug her.

Later, Tohru visited Rin in the hospital and tried to get her to eat. When Rin said that she hated the foods she was given and liked gelatin, Tohru made her some. While eating it later, Rin realized that Tohru was slowly falling apart and that she needed someone to help her like Haru helped herself.
