Isobaric

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

isobaric (meaning of the same weight or pressure) may refer to:

  • in thermodynamics, an isobaric process, i.e. one that is carried out at constant pressure;
  • in mass spectrometry, ions with the same mass, e.g. isobaric peptides, namely peptides with the same molecular weight.
  • in the isobaric speakers design, two speakers act as one by mounting them to an additional sealed cavity, with one of them also mounted on the usual cavity of a speaker box. One speaker moves into the additional cavity, the other one moves out and vice versa, depending on the signal. So the pressure inside the additional cavity always stays the same. The acoustical output per input power is down by 3dB compared to one speaker, because the cone mass is doubled virtually. This also means the back chamber can be halved in volume.
