IMDb profile

Island of Fire (aka Island on Fire / The Prisoner) is a 1990 film directed by Chu Yin-Ping.

Jackie Chan appeared in 3 films for actor Jimmy Wang Yu. In 1970s, Wang had helped Chan when the then young actor sought his help in settling a dispute with veteran director, Lo Wei. Chan repaid the favour by playing roles in Wang's films, "The Killer Meteors" (1976), "Fantasy Mission Force" (1982) and "Island of Fire".

As with the 2 earlier films, recent DVD and VHS releases market them as Jackie Chan movies, displaying his image on the cover as though he was the lead actor. In fact Chan only appears in a small role. The film also stars Sammo Hung.

The tagline for this film is When you're looking for the living dead you start your search in hell!

There are three different versions of this film. There is a 93min Hong Kong version,a 96min US version and a 125min Taiwanese version which focuses more on character development and plot detail.

Island of Fire has also been released with the following alternative titles:

  • The Prisoner (Germany)
  • Jackie Chan is the Prisoner (USA)
  • When Dragons Meet
